A high-end specialty food shop with locations in Milwaukee and Elm Grove, Kettle Range Meat Company is a growing, independently owned whole animal butcher shop specializing in locally raised, locally processed farm-to-table meats and artisanal, gourmet products.

We are a small company with limited resources and big ambitions. We value proactive problem solvers who communicate well, take initiative, work independently, make good decisions, and learn from their mistakes.

Position Summary:

In collaboration with the business owner, you will oversee the Kettle Range retail operations, including the management of staff and operations of our two retail locations in Milwaukee, WI and Elm Grove, WI.

As the General Manager of Retail, you are responsible for creating an attractive, friendly and compelling retail experience for Kettle Range’s diverse and extremely loyal customer base, as well as a fun, supportive working environment for your colleagues and team members.

You will be the highly visible “face” of Kettle Range to our customers. You will lead our small retail team’s efforts to provide our customers with an exceptional and educational experience every time they visit the store ensuring that they know and trust “their neighborhood butcher” to provide healthy, local and delicious meats and other products for their families.

If you want to sit behind a desk, look elsewhere–your duties will include a 50/50 mix of management tasks and on-the-floor interaction with your team and our customers.

You will also work in close collaboration with the other members of the Management Team and with the business owner on the planning and execution of company initiatives, including financial planning and inventory control.

Your responsibilities include:

• Hiring, training and cultivating a team of retail employees and individual store managers to ensure a fun, efficient and satisfying workplace.
• Creating unique, clean and attractive retail spaces that includes informative signage and inviting decor.
• Hunting down new and interesting products, interacting with vendors and managing inventories.
• Collaborating with your colleagues on the Management Team to ensure that all needs of the retail stores and retail employees are met.
• Interacting with our extremely friendly and loyal customers to ensure that their needs are met and that they have a warm and satisfying experience.
• Advancing our mission to educate Milwaukee’s citizens about the vital environmental and social importance of the local farm-to-table food system and the craft of small, artisanal butchery.
  
  

Your experience and qualifications should include:

• 5 or more years of experience in a retail environment.
• Significant management experience in a retail setting, including hiring, planning and budgeting.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• The ability to think on your feet, solve problems and get things done.
• Bookkeeping and planning to track performance and meet company goals.
• The usual computer skills and etc.
• And most importantly, a real passion and dedication to our mission of providing the highest quality, locally sourced products for discerning customers who care about their communities and the environment and who love good meat.
  
  

Compensation:

This is a full-time (40 hours) salaried exempt position, including weekends and some holidays (Kettle Range is closed on all major holidays).

Starting salary is $55,000 to $60,000 with an expectation for growth and an annual bonus based on profit sharing.
