General Manager - Dan & Jerry's Greenhouses

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the CEO, the General Manager is responsible for the overall performance and operating results for a designated growing range (i.e., South Dakota, Iowa, Michigan, or Minnesota). The Range Manager always keeps Dan and Jerry’s business interests in mind and makes decisions aligned with the company’s strategic and financial operating plans.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (comprehensive, but not limited to):

  • Lead the range through full cycle of greenhouse operations, seeding to shipping.
  • Responsible (hands-on when required) for daily crop management, including but not limited to pesticide application, seed germination, propagation, building, operating, and trouble-shooting fertigation systems, harvesting, packing, plant maintenance of facilities and equipment, and data collection.
  • Responsible for team of 30+ employees.
  • Collaboratively with CEO and management team, prepare an annual strategic plan ensuring alignment with overall company growth and financial objectives.
  • Lead and manage your team, providing clarity in goals & expectations that produce quality results.
  • Lead by example, whereas a culture of safety and operational excellence is visibly and measurably evident.
  • Be intentional with employee training to drive improved operational efficiencies and range profitability.
  • Drive strategic improvements that are aligned with company's vision and financial objectives
  • Evaluate performance of personnel in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ensure that all work performed is of a manner and quality consistent with the policies of the company.
  • Perform all other duties as directed by the CEO.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • BS/BA degree in an agricultural related field, or minimum 4 years greenhouse leadership experience.
  • Experience working in a production greenhouse environment of 8 acres or more.
  • Pesticide application experience required; certification is desirable.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency using the Microsoft Suite of software products.
  • Must be able to work with other Company Managers and Range Managers in unison to meet schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to make positive impact decisions, prioritize and meet or exceed deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ownership for decisions and actions; facilitates accountability.
  • Ability to effectively work autonomously, while always keeping the CEO informed of critical data.
  • Fanatical about details and follow through.
