Position Overview:

The General Manager of Appraisal is responsible for the overall vision, business strategy, priorities, and financial management of the Colibri Appraisal business, consolidated under the McKissock Learning brand. The General Manager is responsible for the P&L associated with the appraisal business and for continuously researching and monitoring the market, customers, and emerging trends to refine business strategies and partnerships. The General Manager will also have responsibility for the McKissock home inspection, professional engineering, and land surveying product lines. The General Manager will work closely with, and in many cases, managing, the teams that support the appraisal products and services, business operations, marketing, and sales.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and execute the business strategy and annual operating plan to drive business growth, innovation, and increased market share.
  • Develop strategy, products and services to support appraisal professionals throughout their careers, and work with product, curriculum, and marketing teams to execute those strategies.
  • Strengthen and grow McKissock’s core appraisal business while adding complementary products, services, and channels.
  • Carefully manage and oversee business revenue, operating and capital expenditures and budgets, contribution margin, and overall P&L.
  • Measures and monitors KPIs and metrics to provide customer-centric recommendations to product, platform, pricing, merchandising, marketing, and customer channels.
  • Regularly and relentlessly leverage data to inform decisions and drive business action plans.
  • Directly manage Product and Curriculum team members; influence Marketing, Sales, Production, and Regulatory teams to meet revenue and profitability goals.
  • Become an expert in the appraisal market, gaining expertise in the appraiser journey, appraiser personas, appraiser needs and pain points, competitors, and regulatory implications. You will be expected to foster and manage a culture where you and the team continuously research and monitor the market, our customers, and emerging trends to help drive business strategy and partnership.
  • Manage strategic partnerships and the business development strategy, including engaging with the primary appraisal organizations and major corporate customers and partners.
  • Liaise with Vice President, Valuation & Property Services to implement B2B strategy and plan.
  • Foster an environment that supports Colibri’s core values, mission, and vision in which teams feel empowered and focused.
  • Effectively and consistently communicate relevant, audience-appropriate insights to key stakeholders to inform and align on business performance and priorities.


What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field is required; MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of leadership experience as General Manager and/or in a Senior Leadership position is required
  • Experience managing revenue or a P&L, either in a General Manager, Product Leader, or Marketing Leader capacity. Product management, business development, product marketing experience, or strategy experience is a plus.
  • Business to Consumer (B2C) and ecommerce expertise is required and B2B experience a plus.
  • Experience in professional education is highly desirable.
  • A performance-based leader who can drive the business forward and prioritize activities to deliver expected business growth and profitability.
  • Track record of building business units or product lines in short periods of time.
  • A leader who can successfully bring teams and stakeholders together to align on common goals and priorities and facilitate a positive, collaborative team culture. This leader must be skilled in driving cross-functional and cross-company communication.
  • Demonstrated track record of creating a vision for and building new products, services, or channels to accelerate revenue growth and increased market share.
  • Real Estate or Real Estate Appraisal experience is helpful but not required. Passion for education is required.
  • Must be a “hands-on” senior leader who fosters a low-bureaucracy, high-accountability environment that embraces Colibri’s 4 H’s: happy, humble, hungry, and horsepower.
  • Ability and desire to leverage data to drive decisions and facilitate a data-driven culture.
  • Superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build meaningful connections and rapport quickly, with a love of meeting and working with new people.
