Safety Coordinator – Full-Time (Exempt)

Rate: Pay Grade: E – $22.0870 hour/$45,941 annual to $34.7084 hour/$72,194 annual – minimum starting salary based on prior experience and education

Location: Concord Woods Nature Park, Concord Township, OH 44077

Position Description:

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for organizing and monitoring a comprehensive program for employee, volunteer, and visitor safety. The safety program must maintain compliance with federal, state, local and Park District safety rules and regulations. The Safety Coordinator is also responsible for site and facility safety inspections, assessments, and trainings. The Safety Coordinator collects and analyzes safety/accident data, investigates injuries as required, gives safety recommendations as needed, creates reviews, and updates safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Plans, develops and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Public Employee Risk Reduction Program (PERRP), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Reviews Park District safety policies and procedures and recommends corrective action to comply with standards.
  • Analyzes need for training using data collected from injuries, training matrix, job hazard assessments, and inspection reports, along with input from the Executive Safety Committee.
  • Develops, plans, and coordinates health and safety training with supervisors and trainers, conducts informational meetings and training sessions designed to promote safety.
  • Inspects agency work sites and facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Coordinates purchase of safety supplies and apparel, provides direct or indirect instruction in use and care of equipment. Assists personnel on safe equipment operation and other safety procedures as required.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for the Park District’s Executive Safety Committee.
  • Maintains a comprehensive filing system meeting legal requirements for health and safety issues and training.
  • Works with the Chief of Human Resources on employee accident investigations as required. As well as assisting with reviews of any accidents involving agency property and personnel.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety management, risk management, or related field preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in loss control, safety management, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Possession of Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification or the ability to obtain within 3 yrs. of hire date.
  • Playground Safety Inspector certification or the ability to obtain within timeframe agreed to by management.


Position Requirements:

  • Knowledge of PERRP/OSHA codes and regulations, Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation rules and laws, principles, practices and procedures of risk management, property damage and loss settlements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of park district operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to analyze situations and develop clear, concise, accurate reports and clear recommendations.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups or employees of an organization.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to prioritize and take independent action and initiative.
  • Skill in verbal communications; writing reports; interpreting and applying safety standards and requirements; developing and implementing safety programs; identifying safety violations and problems.
  • Proficiency in computer software programs including Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS/LMS experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • May be occasionally required to work flexible hours, weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Must possess a valid drivers’ license and insurable on the Agency’s liability policy. Pre-employment drug screening and background check required.
