Summary

Job Description

Under routine direction: detects and apprehends subjects committing criminal acts against Aztec Shops, its personnel, property, or customers; performs administrative Loss Prevention functions; assists in conducting investigations and gathering data for investigations. Responsible for Loss Prevention efforts and crowd control at Snapdragon events, including the Team Store and markets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES DEPENDING ON LOCATION:

  • Provides protection and security of Aztec Shops assets by actively participating in the detection and apprehension of subjects committing criminal acts against the company, its personnel, property, and/or customers.
  • Performs dedicated and random surveillance to detect and apprehend customers, employees, vendors, and contractors involved in criminal misconduct. Monitors intrusion alarm systems and responds to incidents and calls-for-assistance.
  • Responds to medical and other emergencies.
  • Maintains close relationship with University Police, and Student Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Monitors and maintains CCTV systems and other security and surveillance hardware.
  • Prepares and submits arrest reports, incident reports and investigative reports.
  • Conducts investigations, gathers and documents evidence, and conducts staff interviews.
  • Maintains Loss Prevention records, both hard files and electronic files.
  • Responsible for inspecting worksites, identifying any hazards, and providing information for immediate resolution.
  • Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all company policies, SDSU policies, federal, state and local laws/regulations including but not limited to employment, safety, and health.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

The minimum requirement for applicants is a High School diploma or general education degree (GED); plus at least one year of experience in retail loss prevention or law enforcement. Candidates who have knowledge of and experience with applicable federal and state laws, codes, ordinances, rules and regulations regarding the detainment of theft subjects, and can use good judgment when summoning law enforcement preferred. Prior experience in conducting investigations, including internal investigations is preferred. Ability to interview internal subjects in matters related to theft, harassment, and general employee misconduct is preferred. Must be computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products as well current smartphone technology. Must be available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays on campus and at Snapdragon Stadium.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Language Skills

Must be able to read, write and understand English. Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives. Requires the ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret general business information, regulations and policy manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, coworkers, vendors, other departments, customers, university personnel and the general public.

Mathematic Skills

Ability to apply concepts of basic math.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables and active opposition. Must be able to make sound decisions in high stress situations where the consequences of error are great. Must be able to analyze problems and rationally and calmly take effective action.

Manual Dexterity

Must have average levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Must be able to utilize a computer. Requires the ability to use a variety of office machines and equipment.

Physical Demands

Must be able to operate computers, copy machines, fax machines and other general office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move rapidly during emergency situations, and must be able to run, jump, push, pull, kneel, crawl and grab.Employees must be able to stand for long periods of time, and alternatively, sit for long periods of time. Employees may need to use objectively-reasonable force to arrest and or detain criminal suspects. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, distance vision, and color vision for extensive reading and interpretation of reports and documents, as well as observation of subjects both direct and via CCTV.

Physical Communication

Must have the ability to talk (expressing and/or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words) and hear (perceiving sounds of nature by ear) to allow for normal and emergency communication and adequate perception of audible warning devices and use of digital radio system.

Work Conditions And Hazards

The work environment is in retail stores and food services units with a variety of surroundings. The retail stores are generally carpeted, with merchandise fixtures and HVAC. Some of the food services units do not have HVAC and are hot and humid. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Residential facilities are generally carpeted interior environments with HVAC, with some exterior parking lots and sidewalk areas. Employees may work outdoors in varying weather conditions, dust and allergens during events (i.e. heat, cold, rain, etc.) and may need to ascend/descend stairs at most concession venues.

Background Check Information

A background check will be conducted after a conditional offer of employment is extended by the company, accepted by the applicant and must be satisfactorily completed prior to any applicant beginning work in a full-time, part-time non-student, or sensitive student capacity with Aztec Shops.

Background checks will include, at minimum, verification of education and employment histories, criminal records, national sex offender registry check, and references. Additionally, based on the nature and scope of the position, the background check may also include a credit report, motor vehicle report, and verification of professional licenses. Failure to answer background check questions honestly, and satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the employment status of applicants or continued employment of current Aztec Shops employees who apply for promotional positions which require a background check.
