Front End Engineer

Teal is a seed-stage startup that allows SMB neobanks and vertical SaaS companies to build accounting products for their customers. These companies are expanding their product suites to sell more fintech products into their SMB customers, and our product is positioned as a perfect expansion opportunity for them.

We are the founding team that previously built Bench Accounting from an idea to a successful business with >$100M raised and >600 employees. We’re back in the SMB accounting space, this time working on a bigger idea with even greater potential.

Our product consists of REST APIs and documentation that our enterprise customers use to build accounting solutions for their small business customers.

We’re seeking an experienced Front End Engineer to join our team, focusing on developing and enhancing the user interfaces of our key platforms. These include our demo platform, which showcases the potential of our API platform to prospects; our developer portal, where developers configure their platforms; and our accounting application, which allows accounting providers to manage the books within our platform.

In this role, your primary responsibilities will include building new features for our demo platform, developer portal, and accounting application. You will also be responsible for writing and maintaining tests for these platforms, as well as creating code examples and guides for our customers. These resources will help our customers easily replicate features from our demo in their own products. Additionally, you will contribute ideas and insights into the architecture of these platforms to ensure they are highly maintainable and efficient.

We are a fully remote team working from Canada and the US. This role mostly involves working from home, with travel to quarterly offsites.

What you’ll do here

• Develop new features for our demo platform, developer portal, and accounting application to leverage the expanding capabilities of our API.
• Write and maintain tests for all UI services to ensure reliability and performance.
• Build code examples and guides for customer use.
• Contribute to the architectural decisions of our front-end surfaces, focusing on maintainability and efficiency.

What you bring to the table

• Solid understanding of front-end technologies and principles.
• 5+ years of experience building front-end applications.
• Strong proficiency in React.
• Experience in being a technical lead on front-end projects.
• Experience in implementing responsive and adaptive design.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work asynchronously.

Bonus points

• Experience working with distributed teams.
• Experience working with Next.js.

Compensation

• USA: $190k-$210k USD total compensation (salary + stock options). Benefits include comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance; life insurance; and a 401(k) plan with matching.
