Position Summary: Nine-month, academic graduate assistant energized by the opportunity to help freshmen succeed through facilitating En 101 and 102, grading, and meeting one-on-one. Position begins August 2024.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
Meeting regularly with students on an individual basis for tutoring/mentoring
Grading assigned compositions and providing direct feedback to students, both orally and in writing
Staffing the Writing Center
Clerical responsibilities in En 101 or En 102 classes
Taking and reporting attendance
Distributing handouts
Collecting papers and exercises
Monitoring student submissions to Canvas
Grading quizzes and tests (GradeMaster)
Performing any other tasks as assigned by the lecture professor, the division chair, or the dean
Performing university-related duties as assigned (e.g., student check-in in August, AACS in April)
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Critical thinking and reading skills
Ability to meet deadlines
Communication skills in one-on-one tutoring situations
Ability to write academic prose well
Bachelor’s degree in English or Creative Writing preferred (Applicants with other degrees will be considered as well.)
Proficient in Microsoft Word
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree; Must be enrolled in post-graduate studies at BJU
Required Experience: No prior experience necessary
