Freelance UX Researcher (1099)

Applause is a leader in software testing and digital quality. As a freelance User Experience Researcher (UXR) at Applause, you will be part of a small but mighty team within the UX Practice, reporting into the Director of UX Research and the UX Research Operations Manager.

The focus of your work will be to drive UX Research excellence by understanding our client's objectives, sampling research approaches to meet these objectives, and working in collaboration with a cross-functional team to execute moderated and unmoderated generative studies.

*Please note, the focus of these studies is on Generative research and not Evaluative/usability research. Also, in this freelance capacity, utilization is variable and demand-based which means a potential range from 0 to 30 hours on a weekly basis.

Basic terms:

• Role: Qualitative UX Researcher
• Type: Freelance, demand-based hours, flexibility for needs-based work outside normal office hours; including the possibility of working on evenings and weekends
• Level: Mid - Senior
• Location: Remote
• Rate: $70 to $90 USD per hour (1099)

Responsibilities:

• End-to-end Research: Take ownership of all phases of end-to-end research projects, including moderation, data collection, analysis, and reporting. Design and execute research methodologies tailored to project goals and objectives.
• Project Ownership: Lead, manage, and oversee all aspects of assigned research projects, including planning, execution, and delivery. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met on time and as expected.
• Collaborative Analysis: Collaborate with other researchers on international projects in order to analyze data, synthesize insights, and develop actionable recommendations. Able to conduct analysis based on the notes/research of another researcher in the local language. Potential to work with and collaborate with international moderators.
• Client Communication: Effectively communicate research findings and recommendations in clear, concise, and compelling formats. Act as a trusted advisor, providing strategic insights and actionable recommendations to inform decision-making.

Experience we are looking for:

• 3-5+ years of previous experience in User Experience Research roles
• Ability to run a study from end to end, including but not limited to preparing a research plan, moderating sessions, and presenting findings to clients
• Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners
• Excellent interpersonal skills in relation to communication, presentation, and client communication
• Experience working with international markets for research

Preferred experience:

• Previous experience working in a UX agency setting
• Previous experience working in a consulting role with clients (e.g., Business/management consulting, UX consulting)
• Bilingual or multilingual / Fluent in more than one language
• Experience with research and design tools like Qualtrics, Lookback, Figma, etc.
