The role
Hello World is the official magazine of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, with over 40,000 subscribers in 192 countries. It is a print and digital magazine by computing educators for computing educators, and we publish three issues per year. Hello World's aim is to support teachers and educators in bringing computing, computer science, and digital literacy skills to all young people.
We are now looking for a US-based freelance editor to support our publication of stories and articles from US-based computer science educators and help us grow our network and impact in the US. This person will help us procure 8 to 10 articles from US teachers per issue.
In this role, you will work with the Editor of Hello World to choose relevant article topics, find people in the computer science education community who can write about them knowledgeably, and support writers to craft insightful articles that inform and inspire educators in the US and beyond. You'll also support our team in the US with relationship and network building.
Responsibilities
Identify and commission US-based educators, researchers, and volunteers to write about computer science education topics that matter to them and their networks and communities
Encourage and guide educators to write content that is high-quality, robust, accessible, and serves our global audience of educators
Edit articles and support authors to meet their deadlines
Work with the Hello World Editor to align articles with Hello World issue themes and the magazine's overall mission
Work with the US Executive Director to source potential writers in the US and highlight Raspberry Pi Foundation North America's endeavours
Support and contribute to relationship building with key US contributors to help the Foundation build its profile in the US
Keep up to date with emerging content topics in the US to suggest for future magazine issues
Communicate with authors during the publishing process to keep them informed about progress

Contacts and networks within the US education community, ideally related to computer science education
Awareness of current discussions and challenges among computer science educators, and the ability to distil these into article ideas
Commissioning and editing experience, with evidence of hands-on involvement in editorial work (copy editing, proofreading) on high-quality publications
Experience of managing author relationships
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a detailed grasp of English style, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
Copywriting skills and design awareness
Familiarity with Google apps
The ability to work under your own initiative and take responsibility for the delivery of publishing projects, as well as the ability to work as part of team
An understanding of computer science education
