Food Technologist

We’re looking for a highly skilled Food Technologist who will assist in the area of research and development for new product lines, including but not limited to: operating test machinery, monitoring sample cooks, packaging and distribution.

This position requires someone that has meticulous data management skills, a precise attention to detail and an excellent understanding of food science principles.

Objectives of this Role

• Assist in creating R&D product samples: material preparation, operate production/pilot equipment, monitor sample cooking, package and label samples
• Ensure samples are made to spec: verify and record material weights, process temps, process times, final yields, pH, salinity, and other analytical data
• Document all results from sample testing
• Manage R&D sensory testing and experimental shelf-life testing
• Maintain R&D sample inventory
• Maintain R&D ingredient/material inventory
• Ensure Test Kitchen, Pilot Plant, and R&D supplies are clean, cared for, and organized. Source any new supplies for Test Kitchen and Pilot Plant
• Assist in sourcing new functional ingredients
• Test ideas on processing or packaging attributes that would improve product performance or desirability
• Participate in production trials
• General awareness of USDA & FDA regulations, restricted ingredients, and approved processing procedures
  
  

Skills And Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s in food science or related degree (preferred)
• Detail oriented, resourceful, and critical thinker
• Understand basic scientific principles in developing new products
• General testing equipment standards and procedures
• Ability to communicate progress and challenges
• Ability to work in accordance with safety and food safety policies
• Maintain highest standards of data management / record-keeping
• Intermediate ability in Microsoft Office products, specifically Microsoft Excel
• Interpersonal and team skills for working with employees at all levels both internal and external
