Foam Line Group Leader

Job Description

Supervise all activities within the foam department with direction from the Foam Assistant Manager. Sets up standards of performance, measures progress, sets up and controls work flow and determines personnel needs based on production schedules and with the assistance of the Operations Manager and Human Resources.

Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Direct Supervision of foam personnel, including time entry and discipline issues.
  • Direct and coordinate production, processing and distribution in Foam Department to ensure manufacturing objectives are accomplished; review with Operations manager as needed.
  • Responsible for the optimization of all foam processes.
  • Responsible for managing foam inventory, including keeping scrap at a minimum.
  • Foam hardness adjustments. Write/ optimize foam pour patterns.
  • Inspect and test all incoming chemical shipments for acceptance.
  • Assist with all Engineering changes, as well implementing final design; includes foam components and foam pad design.
  • Responsible for inspecting final repair, as well as optimizing mold function for optimal part quality.
  • Provide technical assistance to maintenance personnel within Foam Department.
  • Calibration and function of foam mix head.
  • Review processing schedules and production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments.
  • Work with Human Resources to hire, train, evaluate, resolve employee concerns and grievances, and process terminations.
  • Monitor, control, and make recommendations to minimize labor overtime costs within foam department.
  • Prepare and maintain production reports for proper action and recording.
  • Work with Assistant Manager in setting and monitoring standards, examining samples of raw products or directing testing during processing, to ensure finished products are of prescribed quality.
  • Confer with team leads to coordinate operation activities within or between departments.
  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Assist in developing and implementing production tracking and quality control systems, analyzing production, quality control, maintenance, and other operational reports, to detect production problems.
  • Recommend procedures for facility and equipment maintenance or modification, including the replacement of machines.
  • Work with Assistant Manager to implement and maintain various programs such as preventative maintenance; environmental, health and safety; training; and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate equipment operations and safety procedures to new employees, or assign employees to experienced workers for training.
  • Observe work flow and processes, and monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure operators conform to production, processing, and/or quality standards.
  • Provides direction, development and leadership to floor associates.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Authorization Level:

  • Able to start or stop all productions of facility
  • Able to discipline employees, hire and terminate employees with Human Resources approval.
  • Able to schedule necessary changes with production, logistics, materials, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 1-2 years’ experience working in an automotive manufacturing environment as a Production Supervisor or Team Lead.

Education:

  • High school diploma. Associate level college preferred

Technical/ Computer Skills:

  • Skills and knowledge within the automotive seating industry (experience in the seating industry is an advantage, but not a "must have")
  • Knowledge of PU foam systems including high pressure mix heads
  • Automotive manufacturing processes
  • Robot programming
  • Leadership skills and experience
  • Basic skills in business economics and time and motion studies
  • Broad knowledge of OSHA and workplace health and safety programs
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of quality systems
  • Complete understanding of the MS Office Suite including MS Project

The employee generally works in warehouse and indoor office environments but occasionally works out of doors, in all types of weather and on uneven terrain. Overtime may be required.
