ABB is seeking a Systems Drives Field Service Engineer to support our growing system drives business in the NorthEast region. Our systems are utilized in Pulp & Paper, Metals & Mining, and Cement industries. This role requires excellent troubleshooting skills and a strong technical background in drives, motors, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFD). The position involves 80% travel to service our demand-based customers throughout the USA. The goal is to drive service success, improving customer satisfaction, maximizing customer retention, and increasing profitability.


Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the installation of new equipment at customer sites according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Interpret maintenance manuals, schematics, and software tools. Repair equipment using electronics knowledge, test instruments, computers, and hand tools.
  • Lead workers in servicing and repairing ABB equipment. Instruct customers in electrical theory and operation of ABB Drives and VFDs. Lead drive system commissioning projects.
  • Consult with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation and maintenance.
  • Advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, and suggestions for improvements.
  • Learn and utilize ABB tools such as Drive Composer, Drive Windows, Control Builder, SAP, Concur, Outlook, and Amex Travel.
  • Comply with ABB and customer safety requirements. Complete all designated safety training on time.
  • Provide technical maintenance and support for automation process control systems at client sites.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and electronic systems, including PLC ladder logic, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and VFDs.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial equipment.
  • Conduct failure analysis and root cause analysis to identify and resolve issues.
  • Service and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ensure optimal performance of automation controls.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their technical needs and provide effective solutions.
  • Maintain detailed service records and reports.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in a related field and 2+ years of related work/military experience, or a high school diploma/GED and 4+ years of related work/military experience.
  • Understanding of AC and DC drive systems.
  • Experience in field service engineering for AC and DC coordinated drive systems, using test equipment including oscilloscopes, data loggers, PDMA motor testing, and CMC measurements. Experience with ABB 800xA is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze and test system hardware and software performance for applicable OEM integrated machines.
  • Must have work authorization to work for ABB in the US.
  • Must be available 24/7 based on business necessity and willing to travel up to 80%.
