Freeman+Leonard is looking for a Design Assistant for a fashion client’s kids line

This is a hybrid role in NYC.


Candidates must be currently in the NYC area to be considered. No visa or sponsorship offered at this time.


Our client’s Design team is responsible for establishing the trends, color, and style direction for our seasonal and customer-driven lines. They create apparel designs to be shared with internal teams during trend presentations, and external teams at buyer meetings. Once orders are placed, the Design team project manages and oversees the sample development and production process in conjunction with cross-functional partners.


Our ideal candidate for a Design Assistant will be passionate about fashion, have a keen eye for trends, and have a strong ability to multi-task. Additionally, they must be able to execute on these job responsibilities:

  • Research the market for seasonal trends, colors, prints and silhouettes to support the senior team.
  • Responsible for sending out tech packs and sample requests, along with production artwork and color standards.
  • Execute organized and accurate technical development packages that include construction details, sketches, fabrications, trims, print, and color details.
  • Correspond with overseas factories regarding production.
  • Assist designers with the trim and fabric library, color pallets, and flat sketching.
  • Work with the senior team to make sure artwork is sized correctly and for choosing colors.
  • Execute production packages including color and trim specifications and prepare production ready print and graphic artwork.
  • Track and follow up on development and fabric sourcing.


Job Requirements & Qualifications

  • Fashion degree preferred.
  • Internship experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, & Microsoft Excel.
  • Positive attitude and team player.
  • Excellent communication and follow-up skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Candidate must be passionate about fashion and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
