About The Job

The Aviation is looking for a FAR 135 Director of Operations to oversee flight operations, ensuring compliance with international and federal, state and local regulations, in accordance with the company values and financial targets. The Director of Operations ensures that all company flight operations are carried out, in a responsible manner, with the highest regard for safety, compliance, and service standards. The Director of Operations reports to the General Manager and will implement best practices, efficient systems, and processes, while balancing the business needs and operational requirements. The Director of Operations is responsible for, and has the authority to direct, all operational functions. The Chief Pilot and all operational personnel reports to and are accountable to the Director of Operations in all matters pertaining to CFR Part 135 operations.

As a FAR 135 Director Of Operations, You Will

  • Operational Control of company CFR Part 135 flight operations.
  • Maintain a working relationship with the FAA Certificate Holding District Office (CHDO).
  • Responsible for all company flight operations procedures, standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Responsibility for the company General Operations Manual.
  • Oversight of all company training programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Manages Chief Pilot as direct report.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Maintenance concerning maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates with Safety Program Manager to maintain highest levels of industry safety standards and best practices.
  • Participate in and promote utilization of the company Safety Management System
  • Coordinates with Manager of Flight Coordination to ensure trips are legally scheduled.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all crewmembers operating under CFR Part 135 are covered by a Federal Aviation Administration approved anti-drug program.
  • Establish and implement operating practices and procedures in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations to attain company objectives within the framework of established company policy, which will maintain the highest safety standards and quality of service.
  • Flight Operations department representative on the company Safety Committee.
  • Notifies the CHDO within 10 working days of any emergency operation that required deviation from the CFRs.
  • Additional responsibilities, such as NTSB and HAZMAT notification as outlined in the appropriate company manuals.
  • Participate in and promote utilization of the company Safety Management System
  • Directs execution of operational standards, drives a culture of continuous improvement in operations, leads highest standard of safety, and is a collaborative member of the executive team.
  • Pilot aircraft as needed for trip coverage and currency requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Typically requires five years of management or supervisory experience.
  • Degree in aviation, business administration, or technical training preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.
  • Directs and controls the activities of a broad functional area through several department managers within the company.
  • Has overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent understanding of the fundamental principles of flight, aerodynamics, airmanship, aircraft systems and instrument flight rules.
  • Excellent understanding of meteorology.
  • Excellent understanding of FAA, ICAO and other safety guidelines, procedures and regulations.
  • Excellent understanding of the corporate aviation industry and remains current on up to date industry information.
  • Excellent knowledge of Flight Management Computer Systems, glass cockpit, and aircraft systems.
  • General knowledge of aviation maintenance procedures, power plant and electronics systems.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to passengers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight time frames.
  • Ability to work shifts that involve irregular hours, working weekends and holidays, and spending time away from home.
