Family Advocate - Family Ministry Center

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engages, supports and effectively works with families accepted to the Miracle Hill Ministries' (MHM) Family Strengthening program, developing, implementing and documenting families' goal plans, progress and individual case notes, participating in DSS staffing for families' plans and providing education and support services to parents in both individual and group class formats.
  • Provides case support, crisis intervention and resource referral services, which includes assessing and monitoring well-being and progress of families receiving services and conducting home visits and providing in-home services for individual families.
  • Acts as liaison and advocate between community resources and families, establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with community agencies and organizations to provide resources for families.
  • Transports children/families when appropriate to community referrals/activities.
  • Maintains a full caseload of 15-30 families, with caseload fluctuating based on various levels and services required for families, including intensive reunification to aftercare.
  • Provides 24/7 telephone support to families and participates in on-call rotation response to more intensive crisis situations.
  • Attends ministry staff meetings and events as required.
  • Maintains organized records of activities related to services, not limited to families' files, completes user trainings and maintains information as needed in organization database.
  • Communicates effectively with Family Services Program Manager, co-workers and families.
  • Participates in conferences and training to further professional knowledge and build a network of professional contacts.
  • Willingly shares the good news of Jesus Christ, gives personal testimony and prays for those served by the ministry.
  • This is a full-time position requiring a significant amount of telecommuting/remote working. This position requires individuals to perform their work from locations other than MHM's physical office, as approved by their supervisor. Locations may include, but are not limited to, foster family homes, home office, family court, hospitals or DSS. Individuals will be obligated to travel to MHM's physical office for meetings, supervision, paperwork or as scheduled/deemed necessary by supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Education or equivalent experience: Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) strongly preferred with training or experience in working with families and children involved in the child welfare system or Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or related area with a minimum of two years of professional experience working with population served.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal relationships and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of best practice programs in family strengthening, home visiting and community-based services preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with families with multiple, complex needs that may be experiencing crisis.
  • Capable of problem solving, handling crises, and working with families and children of various cultures and from low-income backgrounds in an empathic, nonjudgmental, respectful and professional manner.
  • Experience working as a member of a collaborative team.
  • Specialized training required: Knowledge of computer programs.
  • On the job training if needed: home visitation, trauma parent education, domestic violence, other related issues.
  • License/Certification: none required.
  • Other: background checks include SLED, CPS, sexual offense registry, and motor vehicle registry.
  • Willingness to work primarily in the homes of families residing in potentially high-risk communities.
  • Flexibility required with work schedule and tasks assigned.
  • Mobile Phone Reimbursement: Select MHM roles are required to use their personal mobile phone device to complete their essential job duties. Those roles are approved for mobile phone reimbursement and will be paid through MHM payroll.
