Summary

The Family Advocate is the lead person in the Family Engagement process. He/She has the primary responsibility for recruitment and enrollment to the Agency. The Family Advocate promotes family wellness and ensures parent involvement, and operates as a liaison between classroom, parent, and child in the areas of education, child development, and mental health. This role provides community resources and collaborations, supports individual family service delivery, inclusive of monitoring and reporting. He/She adheres to The Leaguers code of conduct and Ethics Statement written within the employee handbook.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Psychology or related field that includes coursework in the principles of social work, child development, counseling and/or psychology, OR
  • Associate Degree in Social Services, Psychology, or related field that includes coursework in the principles of social work, child development, counseling, and/or psychology.
  • A minimum of two years experience in family social service setting, including knowledge and experience relating to community resources for referrals to families in need of services.
  • Knowledge of early childhood education and intervention.
  • The skill and willingness to deal with sensitive family situations in a non-threatening and professional manner.
  • Compute literacy and familiarity with various applications such as database; work processing, e-mail and internet.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Creole skills helpful.
  • Must have a flexible schedule to accommodate family needs, may include some evening or weekend hours.
  • Must have access to transportation (public or private) for home visits.
