RANK/TITLE: Assistant Professor in Appointment Stream

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

  • The Women’s Pathology division at Magee-Womens Hospital is the department’s centerpiece women's care facility where all breast, gynecologic, placental/perinatal specimens and gynecologic cytology are received and processed for diagnostic purposes.
  • Responsibilities will include sign-out of breast and gynecologic surgical pathology and possibly gynecologic cytology (Pap tests) specimens, teaching and training residents, medical students, and fellows.
  • The division faculty interprets and reports 26,000 women’s surgical pathology specimens and ~45,000 gynecologic cytology specimens.
  • Division’s clinical research focuses on immunohistochemistry, gynecologic cytology, image analysis, and molecular approaches to gynecologic and breast malignancies, and perinatal pathology.
  • Opportunities to support basic research at Magee-Womens Research Institute through the development of peer-reviewed funded research programs and collaborative opportunities with faculty engaged in molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, etc.
  • Teaching opportunities available with medical students in the School of Medicine, pathology fellows, and residents.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Sign out breast and gynecologic surgical pathology
  • Sign out gynecologic cytology (Pap tests) specimens, if proficient
  • Teach Pathology fellows and Pathology residents
  • Participate in translational research initiatives
  • Participate in the department QA program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.D. degree
  • Pennsylvania medical license
  • Residency training in Anatomic Pathology
  • Experience and/or fellowship training in breast/gynecologic surgical pathology
  • Experience and/or fellowship training in cytopathology

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Salary will be commensurate with experience.

The individual will be a full-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh, as well as a participant in the UPMC/UPP faculty practice plan.
