The Potomac School English Department seeks English teacher candidates for a vacancy in grades 9-12, for the 2024-25 school year. This is a full-time position reporting to the Head of Upper School.
Duties And Responsibilities
Manage course load including four classes and a student advisory.
Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instruction in a manner that facilitates active, student-centered learning using various teaching methods such as discussions, group activities, and occasional lectures.
Work with students to encourage and facilitate each individual’s growth as writers.
Teach the assigned curriculum, evaluate students’ progress, inform parents of progress.
Keep attendance records; manage student behavior in classroom and maintain a positive educational environment for all students.
Meet with parents as needed to discuss student progress and challenges.
Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and other teacher training workshops.
Demonstrate personal leadership qualities to inspire student learning, including understanding of the characteristics of the age group taught.
Work in an organized, dependable, patient, and creative manner.
Advise a small group of students by developing meaningful relationships with them and supporting their academic and social-emotional growth.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required
Minimum of two years’ experience
Skilled in writing and preparing lesson plans.
Ability to communicate, motivate, and understand the students’ educational and emotional needs.
Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers, support staff, parents and members of the community.
Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences in students and use different teaching methods that inspire high student achievement.
Enthusiasm and joy for working with students.
