Position Summary

Capitol Technology University, a nonprofit university located in Laurel, Maryland, seeks an Lecturer/Assistant Professor to teach a full range and schedule of undergraduate/graduate courses in Computer Science or related fields (described below) via internet delivery. Daytime on-campus classes and have the ability to change to evening hours also.

Qualifications

  • Must have earned at least a master’s degree in an appropriate field, have three years of relevant professional experience, and must produce evidence of previous teaching experience. Professional experience must include relevant industrial or military experience.
  • Significant university or college-level teaching experience
  • Professional experience related to the field of study
  • Experience with and willingness to use web-based teaching tools such as Canvas, Zoom, Adobe Connect, and other classroom technologies

Experience teaching introductory and/or advanced courses covering most of the following computer science course areas:

  • Java/Python/C/C++
  • RDBMS
  • Data structures
  • Data Science
  • AI, Machine learning, Deep learning and neural networks
  • Tensorflow, Tensrofow.js, Keras, PyTorch etc.
  • GenAI, Computer Vision, NLP

Availability and ability to teach on-campus in Laurel, MD

Recruiting

List of Essential Duties:

  • Work with the recruiting and marketing departments to design and execute measurable plans to increase enrollment of students in the master's and undergraduate programs
  • Develop active relationships with high schools, home school associations, and community colleges to build the pipeline for increased enrollment pathways to Capitol.

Service

  • Engage students in industry-relevant projects and experiences in machine learning / artificial intelligence, operational technology, virtual/assisted reality, digital currency, and distributed ledger
  • Promote, sponsor, and advise student clubs such as ACM, IEEE, Upsilon Pi Epsilon honor society, e-Sports, and other relevant organizations to Data Science.
  • Locate and submit grants that provide students with scholarships and research with undergraduate (REU) experiences to enhance the student experience and student retention rates.

Academics

  • Manages and facilitates class activities and adheres to and meets all established university policies
  • Adheres to the university guidelines and standards for online and online/hybrid learning
  • Responds to invitations to make recommendations to the Chair and Dean regarding the selection of textbooks or other required texts relative to the adjunct faculty member's appropriate academic discipline and teaching assignment
  • Submits final grades no later than 48 hours after the conclusion of their last day of class; remains available to students during the week following the posting of final grades.
  • Participates in student learning outcomes assessment related to the adjunct's teaching assignment as directed by the Chair and Dean.
  • Adheres to all established university absence and attendance policies, guidelines, and requirements.
  • Completes related projects and duties as assigned

Must demonstrate the ability to teach courses from the attached list.

Physical Demands Requires sitting or occasionally standing for extended periods of time, and repetitive motions for operating computer mouse and keyboard. Requires ability to push, pull, bend, grasp, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs. Requires the ability to hear and effectively communicate on the telephone, in the online learning environment, and in person. Visual demands: viewing computer monitor and reading.
