The Role

As our Lab & Facilities Manager, you will be the cornerstone of our internal laboratory operations, reporting directly to the Associate Director of Biofoundry. Your leadership will guide our team, ensuring seamless lab operations and fostering a culture of excellence. You will oversee day-to-day activities, manage operational support staff, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Secondarily, you will collaborate with the Chief Science Officer to coordinate future moves to new facilities, contributing to the long-term vision of the company. Your role will be pivotal in maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of our lab, supporting our mission to transform healthcare through innovative protein-based therapeutics.



Key Responsibilities

  • Manage part- and full-time operations employees.
  • Coordinate operations employees on routine lab support as needed (e..g, dish washing, autoclaving, media prep, etc.)
  • Maintain inventory of common-use research products. Work with accounting to reconcile all lab purchase that have been delivered.
  • Basic lab training, focused on safety, hygiene, and best practices. Enforce company and facility safety regulations. Attend regular facility-led safety meetings.
  • Manage regular (monthly) lab cleanings by the team.
  • Maintain equipment and instruments in good working order; coordinate service contracts, preventative maintenance and repairs with vendors and staff.
  • Assist team with installation/relocation of equipment.
  • Act as a liaison with building landlord regarding work orders and repairs.
  • Coordinate moves between facilities by being a central resource for the moving team.
  • Must be available to respond to emergency calls during off hours, assess, and coordinate an applicable response. This position is considered essential staff, requiring site presence during emergencies.

Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of experience managing a lab space.
  • Experience with research science and good knowledge of basic laboratory techniques.
  • Professional experience managing a dynamic research environment.
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines and compliance with local/state/federal guidelines for biological laboratory environments.
  • Experience with facilities management (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience maintaining scientific equipment (AKTA FPLCs, autoclaves, incubators) is a plus.
  • Ability to work with and manage a variety of personality types and drive willful compliance to critical protocols/processes.
  • Willingness to get hands dirty when issues invariably arise.
  • Good detail tracking and ability to multi-task.
