Position: Extended Day Assistant Teacher (SY 24-25)
Location: Cunniff, Hosmer, and Lowell Elementary Schools in Watertown, MA
Reports to: Director of Community Education
Department: Community Education
Schedule: Minimum of 2 days/week, 2:15-6:00 PM daily, Preference for 3-5 days/week, 2:15-6:00 PM. Additional hours on district elementary early release days, 12:00-6:00 PM.
Pay Rate: $16.08 per hour - $19.70 per hour based on relevant, job-alike experience
Summary
Watertown Community Education is a self-sustaining program of the Watertown Public Schools that provides quality enrichment programs and courses for children, adults, and families.
Watertown Community Education is currently hiring for various open positions supporting the Extended Day Programs at the Cunniff, Hosmer, and Lowell schools. The Extended Day Program provides a safe, nurturing environment after school for children in kindergarten through Grade 5 from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM daily. Activities are provided that challenge each child to explore, discover, create, and grow.
Duties And Responsibilities
Works with the lead teacher and program site coordinator to provide clear, age-appropriate expectations for children to ensure they have a safe and enjoyable experience during the program
Active interaction with children
Supervise students during outside play, snack, gym, homework, and other program activities
Implement positive behavior management techniques designed to help children learn conflict-resolution skills
Maintains proper use and daily upkeep of program spaces and all materials/equipment belonging to the program and/or school
Assist Lead Instructor in maintaining daily attendance log of all students
Follows safety policies and procedures
May be required to support at other Extended Day Program site locations based on program needs, staffing, and/or enrollment
Other duties as assigned by the Extended Day Program Extended Day Site Coordinator, and/or Assistant Director or Director of Community Education
Professional Commitment
The Extended Day Assistant Teacher is required to work a minimum of 2 days per week. 3-5 day per week schedules are preferred.
In addition to his/her regularly scheduled hours The Extended Day Assistant Teacher is required to attend the following periodic meetings:
Weekly meetings with the site coordinator and Director, monthly staff meetings, and two annual program family nights.
May also include other various family events that may occur during the school year.
Attend annual mandatory program orientation and training days.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent is required
Associate’s Degree, or coursework toward a degree is preferred, not required
At least six months of experience working with school-age children is preferred
Annual Professional Development Requirement
CPR/First Aid Certification
