Position Overview
You will lead our efforts in mitigating risks associated with university operations and activities. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President/CFO/Treasurer, you will develop and implement strategies to reduce exposures and provide continuous support to stakeholders in managing risks effectively.
Location: Remote-friendly with periodic on-campus presence.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert consultation to campus stakeholders on risk management strategies.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to control losses and manage risks.
Supervise support staff to identify and analyze risks inherent in university operations.
Manage department budget and monitor claim payments and associated costs.
Analyze loss experience to determine optimal insurance limits and deductibles.
Negotiate commercial insurance programs and administer self-insurance structures.
Collaborate with external partners including underwriters and risk management organizations.
Oversee liability claims and advocate for the university in litigated claim matters.
Serve as the primary contact for the university's captive insurance company.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Law, or Public Administration required.
Advanced degree preferred.
Extensive knowledge of property and casualty insurance industry.
Ten or more years of management experience in large entity insurance programs.
Professional designations such as CPCU and/or ARM desirable.
Experience In Higher Education Or Similarly Complex Organizations Preferred.
Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
