The American Trucking Associations is seeking an Executive Director for the Moving and Storage Conference (MSC) to oversee its operations, activities, and growth. Reporting to the MSC board and VP of Conferences, the incumbent will be responsible for developing Conference strategy and initiatives in alignment with the overall ATA strategy, collaborating with ATA regulatory and legislative affairs departments and leadership. This position supervises a team of three (3) employees.
The ideal candidate will have experience in advocacy/government affairs, association management, communications, and/or board governance, and will serve as the conference's representative within the Moving & Storage industry. This role requires a strategic and self-starting individual with proven experience in overseeing a small trade association or interest group.
The Executive Director, MSC is a hybrid position, requiring in-office attendance at ATA headquarters at least 3 days per week, including Mondays and Tuesdays .
Key Responsibilities
Plan, recommend, and execute Conference strategy in coordination with MSC member leadership and key individuals across ATA
Work closely with Conference Officers on day-to-day operations and governance activities
Manage a team focused on Conference and committee programs, member communications, advocacy, and compliance
Develop and oversee budgeting for the Conference and events
Set the advocacy agenda for the Conference, develop strategic plans, and engage members and build coalitions
Represent the moving and storage industry before government and key officials
Serve as a subject - matter expert on key household goods policy areas
Lead the development and execution of the annual ATA-MSC Call on Washington fly-in
Manage the development of the ATA-MSC Annual Meeting and support workforce development and certification programs
Plan communications to the MSC membership, manage expectations of MSC stakeholders, and engage with industry leaders
Background Requirements
Education –
BA/BS in an appropriate discipline ( e.g transportation, logistics , public or business administration, etc .)
Minimum of 10 -12 years in various aspects of issue advocacy and association or coalition management and public policy positions
Skill Requirements -
Superior written an d oral communications skills
Motivated, self-starter
Keen analytical ability
Strong ability to translate analysis of complex regulations, legislation and technical material into concise and coherent issue papers, position papers, etc.
Strong ability to develop and lead coaliti ons to further advocacy efforts
