Reporting Relationships

Reports to: Vice-President of Career Technical Education and Workforce Development

Supervision Exercised: Functional and administrative supervision is exercised over professional/exempt staff (2 Directors, 2 Managers and 1 Administrative Assistant), non-exempt staff, approximately 100--150 part-time instructors, and site coordinators.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Vice-President of Career Technical Education and Workforce Development, the Executive Director of Community and Continuing Education is responsible for Community Education, Continuing Education, Center for Learning in Retirement, the Traffic Safety program and all events related to these areas, assuring the successful implementation of the RVC Strategic Plan. The Executive Director is responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating professional/exempt full-time staff. They supervise, train, monitor and develop two (2) Directors, two (2) Managers and one (1) Administrative Assistant. Further, the Executive Director will assure the effective and efficient personnel, instructional, fiscal, MIS, and strategic planning functions for all assigned areas, and demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity in all domains. Responsible for special projects assigned by the Vice-President of Career Technical Education and Workforce Development.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, develop and monitor the following supervisors under their purview: (1) Manager of Community Education; (2) Manager of Continuing Education; (3) Director of Traffic Safety; (4) Director of the Center for Learning and Retirement.
  • Supervise, train, develop and monitor the Administrative Assistant.
  • Develop strategic plans for each assigned area to ensure alignment with RVC’s Strategic Plan, as well as develops subsequent action plans to ensure the maximization of student and customer success while also generating exemplary revenue streams.
  • Chief architect of fiscal responsibility and savviness for each area under the Executive Director’s remit and ensures overall the division is operating in good financial standing and that expenditure doesn’t surpass revenue.
  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain effective partnerships with program partners and affiliates, and professional and community constituent groups.
  • Creates and sustains a robust marketing campaign by collaborating with the Marketing Department and their direct reports to ensures all areas are fully visible and that the public is taking maximum advantage of all offerings within the division.
  • Evaluates and develops the most appropriate platforms to offer classes in each area; -in-person, virtual, hybrid.
  • Takes the lead in developing the schedule of offerings with the various supervisors three (3) times a year—developing the Spring Catalog; the Summer Catalog; the Fall Catalog.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity in hiring, policy development and application, and relationships with students, staff, faculty, colleagues, and the community.
  • Develop administer, and monitor, annual budgets, prepare annual report, and maintain effective and efficient use of resources for division programs.
  • Assure the timely and accurate completion and submission of all required federal, state, fiscal, academic, and administrative reports.
  • Direct formation of and participate in advisory committees as needed.
  • Interview, hire, evaluate, and develop professional and support staff.
  • Develop and recommend new policies and procedures.
  • Develop and organize staff development and professional development.
  • Represent the College on community boards, committees, organizations, meetings and at local, state and national conferences.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Point person for special projects as assigned, including strategic planning initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree Required in the field of Education, Humanities, Social Sciences or Business Administration
  • Four (4) Six (6) years of administrative experience in education or related field.
