About Us

The mission of LOFT: Leaders on the Fast Track is to recruit, develop and retain exceptional senior staff and expose them to private sector training and experiences to improve and enrich the talent pool available to the progressive ecosystem.

At LOFT, we believe that our future staff leaders require core business skills, intensive leadership training and strong professional networks in order to drive wins and become better managers. They also need to be able to bridge the salary and benefits gap between roles.

LOFT is a first-of-its-kind year-long paid Fellowship created to provide Fellows with critical business and leadership skills taught by premier MBA programs, unparalleled on-the-job experiences, and network-building opportunities and skills to enable them to lead their organizations like top-tier private enterprises. LOFT will launch its inaugural program in January 2025 and is a 501c(3) organization.

Our business school partners at the University of Michigan and Georgetown University will train Fellows in skills and methods used by the most innovative and impactful companies by adopting their proven best practices to the context of staff leaders, such as data-driven decision making, allocating resources to initiatives with the highest ROI, strategic problem-solving and understanding new technologies like AI.

To support the business school curricula, the LOFT team will curate additional unique educational programming for Fellows so they will deeply understand the application of their classroom learnings to the political, governmental, and public service spheres.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Executive Director to lead our organization in its exciting first chapter and serve as the external face of the organization. The Executive Director is responsible for the development and delivery of a successful Fellowship program that achieves LOFT’s mission, vision, goals, and outcomes. The ED will be the face of LOFT internally and externally, inspiring Fellows, external partners/experts, and donors in committing to and benefiting from the program. This role requires a leader who is not only adept at navigating the political and policy ecosystems but also skilled in building a strong network of supporters, advisors and strategic partners. You will be responsible for setting an organizational culture that embraces our mission.

Some travel is required.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Driving the design and execution of all LOFT program elements in alignment with the mission and goals
  • Overseeing the development of the LOFT educational curriculum
  • Ensuring operational excellence
  • Representing the LOFT organization with all stakeholders internally and externally

More specifically, these responsibilities include the following:

  • Driving the design and execution of all program elements alignment with the mission and goals, including:
    • Education curriculum
    • Fellow recruiting
    • Summer business externships
    • Post-program internships and alumni programs
    • Relationships with, and active support from, validators and connectors
    • Guest speakers
    • Networking opportunities
    • 360-assessment and coaching program
  • Overseeing the development of the LOFT educational curriculum
    • Providing the “North Star” educational vision and strategic priorities for the LOFT organization and the university partners
    • Supporting the Deputy Director and education team to ensure quality, relevance, and innovation in the design and content of the LOFT program
  • Ensuring operational excellence
    • Recruiting and managing LOFT staff
    • Owning, promoting, and protecting the LOFT brand and core messaging
    • Managing and tracking the recruitment of key external stakeholders (e.g., validators and connectors, guest speakers, donors as applicable)
    • Hiring and managing external contractors to support operations (e.g., branding, recruiting, etc.)
    • Developing and tracking short-term and long-term LOFT KPIs
    • Managing the LOFT budget and overseeing other business operations in support of the Director of Operations
  • Representing the LOFT organization with all stakeholders internally and externally:
    • Being the “front of the room” leader during the educational program, supported by the Deputy Director, including:
    • Ensuring the primacy of core learning objectives throughout the program, (i.e., applying business practices to innovate)
    • Fostering insightful participant dialogue and robust debate
    • Engaging external faculty to have the most impact (e.g., leading a panel discussions, Q&A)
    • Facilitating activities and debriefs
    • Being the primary point of contact and relationship-builder with “senior” external stakeholders (e.g., validators, connectors, guest speakers, and donors)
    • Assisting in fundraising meetings and related activities, as requested
    • Building relationships with, and understanding the needs of, future hiring managers of Fellowship alums
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT MUST DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • A belief in and passion for LOFT’s vision, mission, and strategy
  • Leadership roles in both business and politics
  • Experience successfully developing, operating, and measuring the impact of a multifaceted product or program (exemplified by managing a team of 10+ staff and/or a $5M budget, though not rigid numbers)
  • Ability to inspire and engage a broad set of stakeholders, including more junior colleagues
  • Strong communications and presentation skills

Compensation And Benefits

The annual salary for this position is between $230,000-$250,000, and is commensurate with experience. LOFT provides the option of enrolling in medical, dental, and vision coverage plans for both the primary employee and applicable dependents. In addition, we provide a generous PTO policy, Tech Stipend and the ability to contribute to a 401k, with a match, after 6 months of employment.
