Equipment Field Service Technician

We provide outstanding customer service while repairing and maintaining Orange County’s 3,900+ vehicle and equipment assets. We are seeking team players with excellent communication skills who have a desire to help our customers reach their goals.

This Equipment Field Service Technician is assigned to Fleet’s Heavy Equipment/Heavy Truck Repair Shop. Work is performed throughout Orange County, at a wide variety of field locations. Position is required to properly use a County issued PCard (Credit Card).

Representative Duties

  • Work is performed at an offsite location that functions as a stand-alone maintenance facility located within another County Department.
  • Procures parts, establishes inventory, and reconciles purchases made on the County's Purchasing Card.
  • Uses all hand, power and diagnostic tools and machines.
  • May design and fabricate tools and equipment for specialized repair uses.
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of the construction, assembly, adjustment and maintenance of a wide variety of automotive and heavy equipment.
  • Applies knowledge and skill in the use of all hand and shop tools, including computerized and electronic testing and hydraulic testing equipment.
  • Diagnoses simple to complex malfunction of gasoline, diesel, and hydraulic equipment systems; detects worn or broken parts and repairs and adjusts parts and assemblies.
  • Provides technical and functional guidance to equipment and vehicle operators.
  • Keeps records of repair service; researches technical bulletins and equipment repair literature; and follows oral and written instructions accurately and timely.
  • Examines work areas for cleanliness and safety and reports any deficiencies to supervisor.
  • May be required to work on-call, 24/7.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent and six years of experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive, heavy equipment and/or Fire Apparatus. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered on a year for year basis.

And

Must have successfully completed two (2) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certifications and obtain a third (3) ASE or EVT certification within two years of hire or selection.

Must provide adequate tools to perform mechanic's duties as required.

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License. May be required to obtain and maintain a State of Florida Commercial Driver's License for the type of equipment operated within one year of date of hire.

Preferences

Associate degree from an accredited institution in automotive or diesel mechanics.

Recognized certifications such as Automotive Dealership certifications or possess a competency certification in a related field (diagnostics, automotive or diesel mechanics, fuel system, hydraulic systems).

$21.82 - $28.79 (Based on experience)

Educational Requirements

If your education was obtained in the United States, the County recognizes degrees or diplomas which are accredited by an agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). If you have obtained education from a country other than the United States, your degree or diploma must be evaluated to determine the United States equivalency by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Service (NACES) or the Association of International Credentials Evaluations (AICE) at your expense.
