Job Description


Responsibilities

  • Manage and schedule waste transportation and disposal in accordance with regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
  • Develop and implement various environmental plans and response protocols.
  • Conduct on-site inspections to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, and corporate environmental policies and guidelines.
  • Maintain sites environmental files and reports.
  • Routinely update Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Keep up-to-date with federal, state, and local environmental regulations by attending periodic training courses.
  • Participate as requested in environmental compliance and various other environmental matters.
  • Participate and/or direct EMS plant audits and activities.
  • Maintain productive relationships with plant personnel and regulatory agency personnel.
  • Responsible for successfully communicating and executing company policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize.
  • Works independently with outside consultants, contractors, and other resources.
  • Support staff at other company locations in the Western United States.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Sciences, Geology, Biology, Engineering, or related field required
  • Minimum of 0-2 years of experience in environmental compliance areas including air (Title V), solid waste/hazardous materials management, radiation detection systems, and water quality management in a heavy industrial environment.
  • General knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and a familiarity with with heavy industrial operations.
  • Ability to obtain US EPA Method 9 Certification (Visible Emissions Certification) and other required training and keep up to date with the latest regulations.
  • Excellent writing and computer skills including email and Microsoft software products (e.g., Word, Excel, & PowerPoint).
  • Able to clearly communicate expectations, issues and feedback.



POSITION INFORMATION

NOT a recycling location – this is a continuous production process mill with melting, casting and rolling activities and the most environmentally friendly steelmaking operations in the world.

  • an estimated nominal annual capacity of 500,000 tons, including 150,000 tons of merchant product.
  • There are approximately 185 people employed at the micro mill.

They have an environmental person there already but they are opening up this role so they have one environmental person for each mill, this is also why they are okay with less experienced people, they will have support and training. No direct reports, this role reports to Site Manager.
