The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy, reviews proposed actions and rules from both the transportation department and external agencies. Our goal is to make sure these regulations align with the policies of the Administration and our Transportation Secretary while keeping inclusivity and fairness in mind.


We are actively seeking an Environmental Protection Specialist with expertise in Climate Change to join our team in supporting OST's efforts to implement the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal, which includes the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), and other Administration priorities. We are especially interested in individuals with experience in the following areas, as we strive to build a diverse and inclusive workforce: assisting in policy and program development related to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transportation and building the resilience of transportation infrastructure to climate change, extreme weather, and natural disasters.



What You’ll Do:

Interagency Program Coordination and Policy Development related to Climate Change

  • Takes a leadership role in developing and evaluating inclusive climate policies that consider the impact on all aspects of transportation, including marginalized communities.
  • Manages and evaluates program functions, policies, and studies related to climate policy, with a focus on equity and sustainability.
  • Analyzes and ensures the application of regulations, policies, and technology in transportation considers the needs of diverse communities and promotes environmental justice.
  • Coordinates with stakeholders, including underrepresented groups, to address transportation-related environmental issues and prioritize their concerns.
  • Represents the Department in interagency efforts and national programs on environmental stewardship and sustainability, advocating for equitable and inclusive approaches to climate change mitigation and adaptation.


What You'll Need:

  • Candidates with diverse backgrounds and experiences who have knowledge in environmental sciences, transportation policy, and engineering, infrastructure resilience, disaster recovery/emergency management, climate change impacts, greenhouse gas mitigation, and/or transportation challenges facing impacted communities.
  • Ability to engage and collaborate with senior decision-makers, ensuring that diverse perspectives are considered and policy priorities translate into inclusive and equitable programmatic outcomes.
