Environmental Lab Manager

The lab manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the XRF lab, which performs inorganic analysis of metals such as lead, arsenic, barium, etc. The lab manager will manage data, sample intake and tracking, project tracking, QA/QC, standardizing operating procedures, and increasing lab efficiency. The lab manager will also participate in special projects and field work as needed.

Schedule: Monday - Friday (40-50 hours per week), hours dictated by client needs
Work Location: Denver, CO: Reliably commute to Denver office daily, required

Responsibilities:
- Manage data entry, validation, analysis, and reporting using various software tools
- Ensure sample intake and tracking are accurate and timely and communicate with clients and staff about sample status and results
- Monitor project progress and deadlines, and coordinate with project managers and lab staff to ensure deliverables are met
- Implement and maintain QA/QC protocols and troubleshoot any issues or discrepancies in data quality or lab performance
- Develop and update standard operating procedures, and train and supervise lab staff on best practices and safety measures
- Identify and implement opportunities for improving lab efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness
- Conduct or assist with special projects, such as soil sieving, bench scale testing, or method development, as assigned by the lab director or project managers
- Conduct or assist with field work, such as sample collection, assessment, or excavation, as required by the project scope and client needs
- Strong data management and analysis skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software tools
- Knowledge of statistics and quality control principles and methods
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively with clients, staff, and external partners
- High focus on safety and compliance with lab regulations and standards
- Willingness and ability to perform field work as needed
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate when appropriate
- Ability to function effectively in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Ability to manage conflict
- Valid driver's license and clean motor vehicle record
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, geology, environmental science, or related filed
- Previous lab experience, preferably with XRF or other analytical instruments
- Standing for long periods of time
- Prolonged sitting
- Working outdoors while completing field work
- Repetitive tasks that are physically demanding
- Lifting heavy objects, include weight maximums (i.e., up to 50 lbs.)
