Principal Responsibilities


As the EHS Specialist, you will provide technical, environmental, health, and safety support to assigned plants and personnel. Essential functions include supporting the evaluation of environmental, health, and safety programs and coordinating plant activities to support local and corporate objectives. You will influence behavior and inspire commitment on the part of all personnel to comply with Palmer International safety standards and maintain a safe work environment. You will provide oversite to a designated plant(s) to ensure compliance with all corporate EHS programs and policies.


Duties and Responsibilities:

· Be a leader and champion for continual improvement in environment, health, and safety.

· Coach, counsel, and guide department leaders and team members to ensure EHS programs and policies are followed.

· Conduct risk assessments and inspections of facilities, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards and develop mitigation strategies; coordinate drills; act as the primary point of contact during emergency situations.

· Train and educate employees on safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and accident prevention techniques; promote EHS awareness and best practices while keeping employees motivated.

· Investigate safety incidents, accidents, near misses, and thefts as well as prepare detailed reports on findings, causes, and recommendations for corrective actions.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address safety concerns, ensuring the implementation of effective corrective measures.

· Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance with safety policies and procedures.

· Develop and maintain an environmental management system (EMS); oversee waste management, pollution prevention, and sustainability initiatives including but not limited to pollution control, waste management, environmental health, conservation, and renewable energy.

· Prepare and submit required environmental reports and permits as well as work with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits including but not limited to insurance providers, health department and OSHA.

· Maintain accurate records and documentation related to EHS activities and prepare reports for management and regulatory agencies.

· Stay up to date with industry best practices, new health and safety regulations, and emerging technologies in loss prevention.

· Foster key relationships with internal partners to ensure their teams are aware of the impact their function has on compliance and risk mitigation.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Skills/Abilities:

· In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, hazard identification, risk assessment methodologies, and emergency response procedures.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct thorough investigations and develop effective solutions.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and educate employees at all levels.

· Proficiency in using safety management software, incident reporting systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

· Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

· Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

· Strong knowledge of OSHA Standards, regulations, and EHS regulations and standards.


Education and Experience:

· Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or a related field is required. A relevant master's degree is a plus.

· At least 5 years of experience in safety health and safety management, loss prevention, or a related field.

· Completion of OSHA 30 course required.

· Must have a valid driver's license.


Physical Requirements:

· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times; seldom required to lift up to 75 lbs.

· Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facilities.

· Must be able to access all parts of the company equipment.


Travel Requirements:

· Must be willing to travel between 10 – 15%.
