The overall purpose of the Safety, Health & Environmental Specialist is to ensure compliance with regulations around safety, health, and environmental and to provide leadership and training on Safety, Health, and Environmental policies and procedures. This position is also responsible for day-to-day work related to safety, health, and environmental aspects of the facility including laboratories, warehouse, and offices.

  • Lead and provide leadership in all areas involving Safety, Health, and Environmental compliance.
  • Recommend Safety, Health, and Environmental goals and objectives for the Site.
  • Ability to administer employee training programs including safety and health policies, activities (Job Safety Analyses, near-misses, etc.), and best practices and possess the knowledge based, or the ability to provide training in key Life Saving Rules.
  • Conduct routine inspections of the Laboratories, Warehouse, and Office areas to identify hazards and potential Environmental, Health, and Safety risks.
  • Provide recommendation, solutions, and intervention strategies for Safety, Health, and Environmental hazards.
  • Implement new safety and health protocols, policies, and measures to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Track all metrics and trends associated with Safety such as Near-misses and associated risk-based data including other related safety activities.
  • Collect and file necessary compliance reporting associated with Safety and Environmental Requirements such as Tier II reporting, hazardous waste management tracking, OSHA 300 Log and other related reporting requirements including reporting to Management.
  • Oversee and execute training of employee activities such as JSAs (Job Safety Analysis), Near-misses, safety meetings, contractor management, and new employee on-board training.
  • Oversee and ensure all SHE related training documentation has been completed and provided to Human Resources.
  • Provide Laboratory Safety Training to all Technology & Innovation employees on an annual basis.
  • Oversee coordination and management of contractors/service contractors for upkeep of the headquarters facility.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or equivalent in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Natural or Physical Science or a curriculum relevant to EHS fields and three to five years of related work experience in safety, health, and environmental; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Any certifications related to Safety, Health, and Environmental is a plus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Adequately lighted, ventilated, heated/air-conditioned area where normal precautions must be observed such as a typical office environment. The noise level for the work environment is moderate.
