Environmental Health & Safety Specialist


Location: Manassas VA 4 days a week, Gaithersburg MD 1 day a week

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Hourly Pay Rate: $35-$36

6 month contract with possibility for extension or conversion

Associate Safety Professional(ASP) or Graduate Safety Practitioner(GSP) highly preferred


Ready to contribute to shaping the future of science and global health? We are a leader in biomaterials manufacturing, currently seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist.


Responsibilities:

  • Safety Training and Compliance: Support and recommend improvements for organizational safety training programs. Ensure compliance with all environmental and safety regulations and standards.
  • Audits, Inspections, and Reporting: Lead safety audits and inspections following established processes and detailed instructions. Review safety and environmental reports, compile, analyze, and interpret data. Report on department metrics as required.
  • Committee Support and Contractor Coordination: Assist in maintaining the organization-wide safety committee. Coordinate the activities of external contractors engaged in Environmental Health and Safety, monitoring their performance.
  • Emergency Response and Program Maintenance: Respond to environmental and safety emergencies, exercising judgment within established procedures. Maintain compliance with the Bloodborne Pathogens Program, Chemical Hygiene Program, and Respiratory Protection Program. Conduct safety training for new employees and contractors, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations and standards. Address compliance challenges using company policies and procedures.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations.
  • Proficient in conducting safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Strong skills in data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to coordinate and lead safety training programs.
  • Experience in emergency response procedures and protocols.
