Professional Geologist


The Professional Geologist will be expected to provide leadership support to our team and ensure that safety initiatives, technical excellence, schedule, cost, and contractual requirements are achieved for assessment and remediation projects. The potential candidate should be able to collaborate and communicate effectively in a team environment and exercise project authority and mentorship over program team members.


Key Project Activities:

  • Perform regulatory compliance auditing, reporting, and permitting.
  • Plan geology related projects (e.g. Phase I/IIs, LUST, Oil Extraction) and field sampling events including human and ecological health, safety, and regulatory concentrations.
  • Plan and evaluate remediation and restoration programs.
  • Survey sites and create logs (e.g. borehole).
  • Gather and analyze geological data.
  • Examine the composition of samples and specimens.
  • Write technical reports on findings and prepare soil, sediment, and geotechnical logs.
  • Develop, monitor, and utilize Quality Assurance/Quality Control procedures.
  • Ensure environmental and other regulations are met and interpret regulatory constraints for both performed activities and client proposed projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete projects in a safe, compliant, and timely manner.
  • Develop project proposals, work plans, and execution strategies.
  • Provide technical support to team members.
  • Manage project tasks and perform field activities for complex soil, soil-vapor, and groundwater assessment and remediation projects.
  • Oversee and manage subcontractors and third-party contractors.
  • Project planning, scheduling, and resource management to meet project commitments.
  • Prepare technical reports and provide quality assurance/quality control of project documents with a focus on compliance with client and regulatory agency processes, procedures, and policies and regulations.
  • Lead, mentor, and support the project team with the goal of maximizing performance and efficiency.
  • Support the team with site strategy, budget management, health and safety performance, and client interaction.
  • Provide professional services in a mix of work locations - office, lab and field support.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory permit applications.
  • Perform pre-project activities including developing budgets, preparing proposals, and establishing scopes of work and schedules.
  • Meet deadlines established by the team and Client.
  • Maintain and develop existing and new clients.
  • Attend and participate in weekly safety meetings and discuss safety related issues for upcoming personal and team assignments.
  • Attend and participate in monthly safety and professional development training and discuss team and company project activities.
  • Efficiently and accurately detail job performance details on a daily basis, including, but not limited to, billable and non-billable activities, submit expense receipts, and record mileage related to business travel.
  • Additional responsibilities will be assigned based on position growth and development, Client need and Company goals and objectives for growth and services offered.

Experience, Academic Requirements, Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of related experience demonstrating successful technical execution on multi-disciplinary environmental assessment and remediation projects. Geotechnical and project management experience a plus.
  • American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) Certified Professional Geologist (CPG) preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Geology, Engineering, or another related field. Advanced degree(s) preferred.
  • Experience in providing leadership to diverse (both technically and geographically) project teams on high-pressure, high-visibility projects.
  • OSHA 40HR HAZWOPER training completed and up to date.
  • Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulatory agency laws, regulations, and permitting requirements.
  • Advanced computer skills with MS Office software, including Word and Excel.
  • Organizational and teamwork abilities.
  • Must be able to work in the US and pay all relocation fees. Additionally, we are not able to sponsor work Visa's at this time.

  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Position Conditions:

  • This position is performed in an office and field environment, although during the COVID-19 climate, there may be times with a short-term focus on working from home.
  • Candidate must pass a medical surveillance that includes drug screening and respiratory function testing in order to operate in respirator-controlled environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Up to 25% of time may be dedicated to field activities in varying environmental conditions including inclement weather.
  • Personal vehicle use for travel to/from project site is expected.
