We have an opportunity at our Martinez Refinery in California and are seeking a talented Environmental Engineer - Air to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy.

The Environmental Engineer - Air is responsible for supporting the refinery’s environmental compliance with corporate policies and federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The primary focus of this position is to support local Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), California Air Resources Board, and Federal EPA Air compliance.

The Environmental Engineer - Air reports to the Refinery Environmental Affairs Manager and will be part of a team covering all aspects of refinery environmental matters. The Environmental Engineer - Air works closely with operations, maintenance, inspection, other engineering disciplines, and contractors to ensure that environmental requirements are clearly understood and conveyed throughout the organization.

The Environmental Engineer - Air also works to continuously improve MRC’s environmental management systems and environmental performance.

Job Responsibilities May Include:

  • Oversees and provides general coordination for the refinery to ensure compliance with the Title V permitting program and relevant Federal, State and District air regulations.
  • Monitors refinery operations related to assigned environmental program, develops indicators of performance, identifies trends, and supports the refinery in meeting environmental objectives and goals.
  • Prepares and submits compliance reports to local, state, and federal agencies which includes technical components and written communication, including Title V reporting.
  • Evaluates priority and urgency of tasks/projects related to environmental compliance to manage workload and to provide guidance to internal personnel on when deliverables are needed.
  • Supports/backfills other environmental media functions in air, water, and waste
  • Note: Air programs may include RMACT I, RMACT II, BWON, CEMS, NSPS Ja, NESHAP BB, RICE MACT, Boiler/Process Heater MACT, Tanks, LDAR, and Release Reporting.
  • Lead and participate in agency inspections, compliance/enforcement action, and internal audits
  • Develop and deliver training to MRC personnel and contractors on permit, regulatory, and corporate requirements
  • Support/backfill other environmental media functions in air, water, and waste

Position Specific Requirements:

  • Participate in the refinery on-call environmental duty rotation and respond to refinery during environmental incidents.
  • Candidate must have active TWIC card or be able to obtain a TWIC card. Information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in engineering, environmental, physical sciences, or other closely related technical field
  • 2-5 Years of experience with compliance (e.g., environmental, safety) in a regulated industrial setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience interacting directly with regulators

The salary range for this position is $84,617.04 - $150,153.75. The compensation range listed in this posting is in compliance with applicable state law. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, job-related skills and internal peer equity will be considered in determining the selected candidate’s compensation. In addition to salary, PBF offers a comprehensive and generous benefits package.
