The mission of NAVWPNSTA Seal Beach and its detachments is to provide shore-based infrastructure support to the Navy's ordnance mission and other fleet and fleet support activities. Part of the mission is also to prevent pollution, protect the environment, and protect natural, historic, and cultural resources. NAVWPNSTA’s Environmental Team has been recipients of multiple Secretary of Defense Environmental Awards.

The Environmental Compliance Manager ensures compliance with environmental laws, regulations, policies and permits. The position is located in the Environmental Division within the NAVWPNSTA Seal Beach Public Works Department.


In this position you will perform the following duties/responsibilities:


  • Ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, policies, and permits (i.e., Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems permits).
  • Conduct site inspections for current and planned operations.
  • Compile permit driven reports and submit to local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Complete environmental data calls from internal commands and external organizations.


The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:


  • Knowledge of various environmental laws, regulations, and standards to support customer, program, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in ensuring compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations.
  • Experience providing products and services for various environmental media (i.e. storm water, wastewater, potable water).
  • Ability to interpret and apply environmental instructions, policies, practices, and laws and regulations.
  • Experience conducting site investigations and inspections to ensure compliance with permits, leases, and federal and local laws and regulations.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience using computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate updates, issues, and recommended correction actions to leadership.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Engineering series: Bachelor's of Science in a related field and registration as a Professional Engineer

or

Physical Scientist: Bachelor's of Science in physical science, engineering, or

mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related

engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and

electronics.

or

Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the

majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical

science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or

  • additional education.
  • Must hold U.S. Citizenship
  • Aged 18 or older at time of hire
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
