Under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer, performs a variety of complex engineering tasks including drafting and design support for assigned projects, plan review, project inspection and provides assistance to the general public, other departments and professional level engineering staff and consultants;.
Examples Of Work
Essential Duties*
Prepares and reviews engineering plans, reports, studies and related documents;
Prepares scopes, cost estimates, specifications, special provisions and related documents for capital improvement projects;
Assists City Engineer and the Project Engineer in reviewing plans for City projects and may assist Planning and Economic Development Departments in review of proposed projects;
Conducts field inspections of work done by contractors to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Drafts and recommends contract change orders and payments for approval.
Assists with review of development projects for compliance with City ordinance, state and federal statutes and regulations, adopted standards or City policy and meets with project applicants to resolve questions or problems.
Assists in overseeing and managing construction projects;
Reviews and investigates citizen concerns and recommends remedial measures;
Requests, performs or directs the testing of materials and interprets results to ensure compliance with project specifications; prepares written reports and recommends alternatives when necessary;
Assures that adequate departmental activities records are maintained and that appropriate periodic and special reports are prepared and distributed;
Assists with establishing project schedules and estimates construction capital cost and construction time.
Assists in developing and monitoring projects and operational budgets;
Supervises problem-solving in field situations;
Oversees construction projects including requests for proposals, receiving bids, recommending successful bidder, contract compliance, approval for pay requests, and project acceptance;
Under the direction of the Project Engineer, inspects or performs evaluations of structures in compliance with established inspection programs and prepares appropriate reports;
Provides information at public meetings;
Assists in optimizing City resources, procedures and processes;
Assists in researching and developing manuals, standards and specifications;
Assists in developing and maintaining hydraulic and hydrologic models;
Assists in implementing the pavement management system;

Acceptable Experience And Training
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and four years of engineering support experience in construction or capital project management.
Certificates And Licenses Required
State of Texas Class C driver's license.
Starting Pay: Dependent Upon Experience (Minimum of $65,998.40/year)
