ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

Duties

  • You will fabricate various test devices, electronic and mechanical, for instructional purposes.
  • You will develop new experimental systems and demonstration units for a variety of engineering laboratories, including Mechanical Engineering Experimentation, Mechanical Vibrations, Ocean Engineering Structures, or other labs.
  • You will determine test procedures and make design changes to improve test equipment and related accessories.
  • You will set up, calibrate, and operate mechanical/electronic equipment associated with various engineering labs,

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Applying theories and techniques of engineering to assist and direct students to solve design problems;
  • Collecting and analyzing data to be used in technical papers and/or publications;
  • Reading, interpreting and generating complex mechanical drawings.

Education

Applicants that do not meet the specialized experience as described above may qualify with the following education:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution

OR

Successful completion of 3 full years (54 hours) of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution.
