Engineering Technician

Amick Brown is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician for our direct client.

Location: Santa Clara, CA

Duration: 12 Months

Estimated pay range: $36 – 45 per client contract and candidate skills, experience and work location.

Job Description

  • This role will involve qualifying and servicing ISI's internally owned functional test fixtures.
  • Responsibilities will include software updates, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration.
  • The role requires technical expertise, experience, and the ability to make independent decisions.
  • The candidate should demonstrate competency to perform the duties of a Senior Engineering Technician.
  • Additionally, the role necessitates the ability to coordinate repairs with operations and other engineering disciplines to minimize downtime.
  • Candidates must be highly motivated with a strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward is required as well as a commitment to high product quality.

Engineering Technician

  • Supports engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electro mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light transmission devices or specialized test equipment.
  • Applications may include electronic circuits, photonics and logic systems.
  • Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions.
  • Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment.
  • Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.
  • Assists in the design, construction, test and check-out of test equipment.
  • Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Perform IQOQ on operation and engineering-owned fixtures.
  • Coordinate qualification activities with operations/lab owners to ensure that each fixture is up to date and in good working order.
  • Perform quick triage of the issues and recommend the best action to limit downtime.
  • Perform simple reworks on the spot (cable crimping, soldering components, tapping threads, cleaning optics, adjusting alignments, etc.).
  • Document all activities in support of our formal records.
  • Order parts and assemble/bring up duplicate fixtures for operation.
  • Assist or execute engineering-level tests and collect data to support the design of experiment activities or characterize an assembly.
  • Assist with parts order, build, and modification of development fixtures for evaluation.
  • Generate or assist in the implementation of Engineering Change orders.
  • Follows all corporate safety, SOP, DOP procedures, and regulations.
  • Understand problems, areas of risk, and areas for improvement within the work unit, including the processes and procedures.
  • Perform other engineering technician duties as needed.

Skill/Job Requirements

  • Significant experience with wiring diagrams, schematics, assembly drawings, fab drawings, and mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to perform complex technical issues on various electrical/electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Working knowledge of computers, word processing, and spreadsheet applications for documentation and data presentation.
  • Ability to read, modify, and execute test scripts used for debugging.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to various technologies that allow effective troubleshooting.
  • Examples: Digital and Analog Electronics components, optical components, servo components, machined parts, sheet metal parts, cable assemblies.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are required to partner effectively with operation techs, supervisors, the training department, and Manufacturing/Design/Test Engineers.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Experience with JIRA, Agile, and SAP or equivalent tools
  • Effectively use of troubleshooting and measurement equipment like oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, custom test platforms.
  • Document investigation findings in quality notifications, which are part of official Device History Records.
  • Electronic and Mechanical assembly skills (Examples: soldering, crimping, box build, fiber handling, optical component handling, cable routing, and use of RTV/epoxy).

Education/Experience

  • AS degree, trade school, military technical training. B.S. EE/Comp E or equivalent is preferred.
  • A minimum of eight years of troubleshooting experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
