Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineering Co-op in the Technology Department is a detail-oriented, technically minded individual who will be providing technical support to Engineers on projects and other supporting engineering efforts.

The ideal candidate should be majoring in a Bachelor or Master of Science degree program for Mechanical Engineering at an accredited university. Candidates in other University Level Technical Majors will be considered. The position will be working under the direction of the Engineering Manager or Engineer on all assignments.

 Revision and Generation of component and assembly 3D CAD models and drawings

 Daily support of the Projects and Tasks of the Engineering Department through battery teardowns, component inspections

Responsibilities

Among the responsibilities of the candidate are:

  • Revision and Generation of component and assembly 3D CAD models and drawings
  • Reverse engineering for generation of 3D CAD models and drawings of batteries and other equipment and components
  • Daily support of the Projects and Tasks of the Engineering Department through battery teardowns, component inspections, technical document review
  • Check drawings, Bills of Materials and specifications for accuracy
  • Interact with C&D factory personnel and suppliers to communicate engineering changes and sustaining engineering of batteries, battery parts and accessories
  • Perform dimensional inspections of parts and assemblies and document the results
  • Revise and develop EXCEL spread sheets to be used for Engineering analysis and costing
  • Customize computer system to work more efficiently
  • Provide technical support to others as directed
  • Report status on assignments
  • Work effectively as a team member
  • Develop an understanding of how to effectively work with engineering support personnel

Basic Qualifications

 3D SOLIDWORKS/AUTOCAD (or equivalent), pursuing an Engineering degree or equivalent

 Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

 Effective communication skills, verbal and written

Working Conditions

Performance of responsibilities occurs generally in a laboratory devoted to the development and testing of lead-acid and lithium batteries and includes working directly with batteries and their components. Some testing may occur within high temperature chambers (120-160F) exposing individual to high temperature/humidity for extended periods (up to 30 minutes at a time). It requires use of standard lab tools, and the ability to handle (push) large batteries (>100 lbs) and to lift up to 40lbs.
