Engineering Manager (Renewables)

We are currently seeking an accomplished Engineering Manager to contribute to our dynamic and rapidly expanding team. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in civil and/or electrical engineering, proficiency in CAD software, and extensive expertise in solar project design, engineering, and construction. As the Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the design and development of solar and battery energy storage projects, providing support for performance engineering, electrical engineering, and pre-construction engineering in collaboration with our in-house EPC management team. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks including technical analysis, system design, interconnection strategy, process standardization, cost estimation and optimization, and product evaluation. This role demands a hands-on approach, excellent project management skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.


Key Responsibilities:

Development Design & Engineering:

  • Conduct desktop analysis of new greenfield sites and iterate capacity checks to identify buildable areas.
  • Utilize CAD software to draft and modify preliminary designs and detailed engineering drawings for solar and battery energy storage projects.
  • Analyze data to optimize designs for maximum energy output.
  • Collaborate with engineering vendors to develop plan sets optimized for civil, electrical, and structural disciplines.
  • Research and ensure compliance with regional specific requirements, permits, codes, ordinances, and environmental constraints.

Performance Engineering:

  • Build, review, and optimize energy production models using industry-standard modeling solutions.
  • Review and approve performance modeling conducted by third parties for projects under construction.

Electrical Engineering:

  • Design AC and DC electrical single-line diagrams for utility-scale PV systems.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes, manufacturer requirements, and utility interconnection standards.

EPC Support:

  • Develop and manage company standard design specifications in collaboration with the EPC team.
  • Collaborate with the Construction Engineering team to optimize designs for constructability and bid-level submissions.
  • Support procurement processes for project-specific equipment and long-lead items.
  • Conduct site visit inspections to ensure quality and safety.

General:

  • Manage external engineering resources during project development and construction phases.
  • Create detailed Basis of Design documents and develop Design Standards and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Manage the entire project design lifecycle from conception to construction.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to align project designs with overall goals and timelines.
  • Foster communication and collaboration across departments.
  • Implement and maintain quality control processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of combined industry-related experience.
  • Proven experience in solar project design and renewable energy projects.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in production analysis tools.
  • Project management experience with a successful track record in solar utility-scale project delivery.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Effective management of external engineering resources.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects through the development lifecycle.
  • Strong critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Committed team player with the ability to develop productive work relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC & NESC preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in AutoCAD, PVSyst, Smartsheet, and MS Office Suite applications.
