Job Summary

The Engineering Manager will provide technical and administrative leadership for a medium to large team of Engineering personnel.

Major Accountabilities

Must work in accordance with Health & Safety regulations, Martinrea Industrial rules, policies and procedures

  • Abide by all Company polices including, but not limited to the following; Health and safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies, and the Martinrea Employee Handbook
  • Must understand the six elements of the Quality System, Record Retention, Document Control, Non-conforming Material, Corrective Action, Preventative Action and internal audits as well as department procedures.
  • Demonstrate 5S mythology in your work area
  • Must use or wear equipment, protective devices or clothing as required by Martinrea Industrial Canada
  • Assess workload, assign staff to customer projects and oversee completion of these projects according to specific deadlines and project timelines.
  • Review project schedules on a timely basis to ensure projects are completed on time. Take steps to make sure that if projects are slipping to steer them back on track by coordinating with appropriate departments or external suppliers as required.
  • Provide engineering expertise for projects through the manufacturing process for plant layout, process improvement part quality improvement, ergonomic improvement, scrap/reject improvement and cost reduction by tooling, machining manpower.
  • Act as a main contact for special projects and/or key customers; travel to customer sites, work with the engineering/management staff.
  • Continually demonstrates leadership through "walk the talk"
  • Provide Engineering expertise to engineering staff
  • Provide on time employee evaluations.
  • Participate in monthly employee meetings, safety talks
  • Conduct incident investigations
  • Conduct employee training
  • Correct substandard acts or conditions
  • Perform employee safety observations
  • Typically manages and leads 7+ employees
  • Lead planning and tracking of engineering activities including risk assessment, budgetary performance, and program timing
  • Identify opportunities for improvements in engineering practices to obtain increased operational efficiencies
  • Review and approve engineering records

Qualification

  • BS or MS (preferred) in engineering or equivalent4
  • P. Eng Needed
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in an Automotive or Industrial Manufacturing or equivalent preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Good management and leadership skills
  • Good computer proficiency / Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • May be required to have proficiency in languages other than English

Work Environment

  • 70% office,30% plant floor (PPE required)

Health & Safety

  • Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company and plant rules, policies and procedures
  • Must use or wear Personal Protective Equipment and certain clothing as required by the Company
