Job Title: Engineering Faculty - Mechatronics and Robotics Focused

Type: Full-time, 10-month position

Job Description

Capitol Technology University, a nonprofit university located in Laurel, Maryland, seeks a dedicated and dynamic individual to join our engineering faculty with a focus on Mechatronics and Robotics, starting in Fall 2024. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching a full range of undergraduate and graduate courses related to mechatronics and robotics during the daytime on campus, with the ability to switch to evening hours as needed. Additionally, the candidate should have a strong commitment to mentoring students and to developing and enhancing our engineering program.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work in the US without sponsorship as the college is unable to provide sponsorship.
  • Minimum of a master's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning by the start date in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. PhD preferred.
  • Teaching experience as well as professional experience in a related field.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with faculty, students, and industry partners on various projects.
  • Ability to teach in the synchronous online environment.
  • Must be able to maintain confidential information.
  • Must be mission-focused.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Strong record of scholarly activity and research in Mechatronics, Robotics, or related areas.
  • Experience with ABET accreditation processes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain industry collaborations.
  • Experience in setting up and managing laboratories for Mechatronics and Robotics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education.

Key Responsibilities

  • This 10-month position will be responsible for working with the Academic Dean and Department Chair. The requirements for this position include teaching 24 semester hours per academic year and managing the engineering labs. This position requires an on-campus presence 5 days per week. Essential duties and responsibilities include:
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Mechatronics, Robotics, and related areas. Provide learning activities that stimulate student involvement and encourage critical thinking.
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students; respond to students' emails and voicemails in a timely fashion; perform accurate assessments of student performance.
  • Maintain professional competencies in the subject area and currency in instructional methodologies through professional associations and professional development.
  • Teach online and use LMS (Learning Management Systems). We are currently using Adobe and Canvas.
  • Serve on college-wide and departmental committees as needed. May be required to assist with advisement and registration processes.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean, and/or Executive Vice President.
  • Mentor and advise students on academic and career development.
  • Assist students in conducting and publishing high-quality research in Mechatronics, Robotics, or related fields.
  • Work on ABET accreditation of the engineering program.
  • Establish and maintain the laboratory for Mechatronics and Robotics.
  • Collaborate with industry partners to enhance the educational and research programs.
  • Develop and participate in outreach programs to engage with the community and industry.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.

Physical Demands

Requires sitting or occasionally standing for extended periods of time, and repetitive motions for operating computer mouse and keyboard. Requires ability to push, pull, bend, grasp, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs. Requires the ability to hear and effectively communicate on the telephone, in the online learning environment, and in person. Visual demands: viewing computer monitor and reading.
