Our client, a leading chemical manufacturing company, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Integrity Engineer. This permanent placement role involves leading and continuously improving the Mechanical Integrity Program at the Charleston site. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in fixed equipment inspection, management of technical teams, and a strong understanding of relevant industry standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Integrity Program Development: Lead and continuously improve the Mechanical Integrity and Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) programs, detailing inspection methods, frequencies, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Supervision and Support: Provide direction and support to the Mechanical Integrity and Quality Assurance & Control supervisors, and serve as a liaison between the site and external authorities regarding Mechanical Integrity and inspection matters.
  • Team Development: Oversee and lead the Mechanical Integrity and Quality Assurance teams, ensuring they have the necessary resources, skills, and experience to maintain a robust inspection and quality assurance process.
  • Compliance and Communication: Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, communicate findings via metrics and KPIs, and prioritize corrective actions to maintain 100% compliance and defined uptime.
  • Budgeting: Support budgeting processes by monitoring and anticipating OPEX and CAPEX budgets to ensure scheduled inspections are properly accounted for.
  • Technical and Project Management Support: Provide technical support, project management guidance, and oversight for inspections, testing, and repairs of fixed equipment and piping.
  • Program Management: Manage the Mechanical Integrity and QA/QC Programs to ensure proper assignment of inspection frequencies and techniques.
  • Regulatory Communication: Represent the company to outside authorities in the field of Mechanical Integrity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical.
  • 7-10+ years’ experience in fixed equipment inspection in a chemical or petrochemical manufacturing environment.
  • 5-7+ years’ experience managing technical teams in the areas of fixed equipment inspection and quality assurance & control.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., NCEES EIT, API 510, 570, or 653) and risk-based inspection training or API 580 certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of API, ASTM, ASME standards, and federal and state regulations affecting piping and fixed equipment.
  • Technical expertise in inspection processes, non-destructive testing (NDT), and damage mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in GE Digital APM-MI, SAP, and SharePoint applications.
  • Strong leadership, communication skills, and a proactive approach to compliance and process safety.
