About the job:

Based in Norfolk you will join the Agency as we embark on a journey to transform our IT services to support NATO’s Digital Endeavour. You will join CSU Norfolk, which is the leading provider of Communications and Information System (CIS) products and services to locally based NATO entities. CSU Norfolk enables end-to-end CIS services and manages critical technological capabilities during peacetime, crisis and war.

We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic Engineer (ICT Systems) & Principal Technician (ICT Systems) who will take on the following roles and responsibilities, amongst others:

Engineer (ICT Systems)

  • Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of ICT end systems within an organization;
  • Provide leadership of all assigned staff within Application Management Section including career development, training and performance management;
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of assigned military and civilian personnel, assess skill levels, provide On-the-job-training (OJT) and determine formal training requirements;
  • Act as the primary System Administrator for NU, NR and NS AIS systems in the CSU AoR;
  • Monitor assigned systems and services to ensure availability in accordance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs);
  • Provide engineering advice for the design and implementation of computer security best practices;
  • Perform detailed engineering analysis and configure NU/NR/NS architectures in accordance with NATO Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) guidance.


Principal Technician (ICT Systems)

  • Responsible for Software configuration, System software, Network support, Systems installation and removal and Release and deployment;
  • Deputize for higher grade staff, if required.
  • Perform other duties as may be required.

About you:

The valuable knowledge and experience that you bring to this role are:

Engineer (ICT Systems)

  • A minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s degree at a nationally recognized/certified University in a related discipline and 2 years post-related experience:
  • Experience supporting ICT (Information and Communications Technology) end systems such as:
  • System Administration on a large computer network;
  • Windows & Linux Operating Systems;
  • Active Directory & Group Policy Management;
  • Storage Area Networks (SANs);
  • Data Backup systems;
  • Use of scripting to automate tasks;
  • Leading technical teams and managing projects;
  • Advanced troubleshooting techniques;
  • Sound knowledge of ITIL Problem Management process;
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.


Principal Technician (ICT Systems)

  • Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 3 years post-related experience;
  • At least 3 years practical experience of implementation and maintenance of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) end systems within a large organization;
  • Good understanding of ICT systems and experience configuring hardware and software;
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting technical issues and providing technical support to end-users;
  • Experience in System Administration of both Windows and Linux Server Operating Systems;
  • Technical knowledge and experience in distributed Information Systems as they are applied to modern Command and Control Information Systems (C2IS);
  • Experience with MS SQL DB, other database packages, database queries and scripting;
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
