Energy and Sustainability Coordinator

Join the City of Redmond as an Energy and Sustainability Coordinator and gain valuable experience in project management, policy development, stakeholder engagement, and more. During the fellowship year, the Energy and Sustainability Coordinator will advance multiple initiatives in support of the City’s Environmental Sustainability Action Plan and City Operations Zero Carbon Strategy with a focus on energy efficiency and decarbonization efforts within city operations.

Position Overview & Description

The Energy and Sustainability Coordinator will support or lead initiatives to advance energy efficiency, electrification, and decarbonization for municipal and community facilities at the City of Redmond, including:

  • Clean Buildings Performance Standard compliance
  • Redmond facilities decarbonization strategy implementation
  • Policy and programming research in support of city operations decarbonization strategy
  • Green purchasing
  • Electric vehicle charging station management initiatives
  • Education and outreach to city staff in support of conservation goals
  • Redmond facilities portfolio energy and water monitoring and management

The Energy and Sustainability Coordinator will work with the Sustainability Program Manager in the Mayor’s Office at the City of Redmond. Typical workdays and hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, with two days per week in-person and three days per week remote.

Staff will engage the Fellow about their interests to finalize their scope of work and identify training and career growth opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Produce, track, manage, analyze, and communicate data
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders
  • Research programs, policies, or resources to support implementation efforts
  • Design, implement, evaluate, and improve initiatives
  • Develop presentations or reports

Desired Qualifications

The ideal Fellow will have strong research, data analysis, and communication skills. The ability to simply and clearly explain the results of thorough, well-documented research will be key, as will the ability to work with a wide range of staff and engage members of the public.

Other Desired Qualifications Include

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Coursework in engineering, energy systems, or similar experience preferred.
  • Experience in energy efficiency, renewable energy, data analysis, program administration, project management, or related fields.
  • Ability to work in teams as well as independently, carrying out assignments, making independent judgments and/or decisions, and discerning when deferring action to a higher level is required.
  • Must be able to effectively manage multiple projects and maintain an organized and well-communicated workflow.
  • Reliable transportation to be available on-site(s) as needed.
