Employee Concerns Senior Investigator

The Employee Concerns Senior Investigator (ECP) is responsible for managing, executing, and performing timely and thorough Employee Concerns Program (ECP) investigations related to potential deliberate misconduct involving compliance/technical violations, retaliation, chilled work environment, as well as work environment assessments, in a confidential and independent manner according to approved procedures and industry best practices.

The ECP investigator is expected to have effective verbal and written communication and analytical skills, handling multiple investigations with some direction and being capable of working a flexible schedule based on business needs. The ECP Investigator must maintain the confidentiality of all individuals raising concerns, to the extent allowed by applicable laws, and effectively communicate the results to management to drive change in the work environment for the purpose of maintaining a healthy Safety Conscious Work Environment (SCWE) and a strong Nuclear Safety Culture (NSC). In addition to investigator responsibilities, the ECP Investigator also has special assignment responsibilities that may include ECP programmatic responsibilities, ECP availability and visibility responsibilities for assigned sites globally, and/or other responsibilities as deemed necessary by management.

Your Day To Day

  • Develops investigative plans, employs subject matter experts as needed and is able to manage concerns and investigations with occasional oversight and direction. Performs complete, thorough, and timely ECP investigations by gathering physical, testimonial, and electronic evidence. Performs SCWE Assessments and NRC allegation investigations of complex concerns according to approved procedures and industry best practices.
  • Is proficient in report writing/written communication to address investigative issues and analyzing evidence to develop conclusions with some editing. Effectively conveys the results of investigations to management in a manner that protects the confidentiality of the concerned individuals, and yet provides management with enough detail to develop comprehensive and effective corrective actions to affect the proper changes in the environment. Tracks corrective actions to completion and provides critical feedback to management on proposed corrective actions to ensure the desired result is accomplished. Aggregates data to assess the effectiveness of corrective actions for high activity areas.
  • Recognizes when Legal, Human Resources, Ethics & Compliance, and Regulatory Compliance groups are needed in the resolution of cases and in the execution of policies and procedures impacting ECP and NSC. Maintains professional relationships with these stakeholders and is able to communicate in a tactful, respectful, and diplomatic manner across the company.
  • Performs routine analysis of various site data (including CAP, Safety, Observation, NSC survey comments, quality issues, etc.) in conjunction with NSC to proactively identify potential negative trends, and effectively communicates results to management to effect positive change in the work environment before significant issues occur or a degraded work environment develops. Maintains a healthy relationship with site management and HR and is available and visible to the workforce.
  • Assists in the development of ECP procedures, training, and analyses.
  • Represents WEC and ECP as a technical leader within the company (both within US and non-US locations).

Who You Are

  • 4 year degree from an accredited college or university in a related field (engineering, science, legal, business, criminal justice, etc.), or 9 years nuclear experience.
  • 5 years commercial nuclear power operations experience. This can be a combination of experience with commercial nuclear power plants and/or nuclear manufacturing facilities and includes regulatory background.
  • Highly recommended prerequisite training areas include professional training in investigation methods to include interviewing, evidence collection and report writing.
  • Highly desired certifications/formal training include graduation from an investigative academy such as the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) or accredited investigative program.
  • Highly recommended and desired are professional certification/specialized professional trainings such as the John E. Reid Interview/Interrogation techniques, Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE) certificate through the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and/or completion of a professional industry courses and/or specialized professional trainings, e.g. Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), accredited law enforcement training/investigative program.
  • Must be proficient in, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Must be proficient in written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess interviewing skills to effectively obtain relevant information during the investigative process.
  • Must possess analytical skills to assess a myriad of information and arrive at a fact-supported conclusion.
  • Must be able to resolve and mitigate conflict.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality and neutrality.
  • Must be able to independently travel a minimum of 25% of the time including domestically and internationally via car, trains, planes, etc. Some destinations may be remote.
  • Must be able to lift, manage and maneuver luggage, laptops, briefcases, etc. (less than 50 lbs.).
  • Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to independently traverse or maneuver project/construction sites, supplier facilities, office environments, etc.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 40 scheduled hours/week with occasional shift work.
  • Ability to speak, read and write in multiple languages, such as English, Spanish, Italian, Croatian, Hungarian, Swedish, German, French, is considered positive, but not required.
