Salary: $72,113.60 - $108,180.80 Annually Location : Chaska Justice Center, MN Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 02727-2 Division: Sheriff's Office Department: Communications Opening Date: 06/20/2024 Closing Date: 7/11/2024 4:30 PM Central JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of the Commander of Emergency Management and Communication Services, the Emergency Management Specialist is responsible for planning, training, response, resource coordination, and other emergency management activities, both within the county government and in coordination with other local and state agencies. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct annual review and updates of the County Emergency Operations Plan, Hazard Mitigation Plan and Continuity of Operations Plan to ensure timeliness and effectiveness of response by providing guidance and expertise to other departments during development and ensure plan meets state and federal guidelines;
  • Develops, coordinates and integrates, along with other emergency management staff, all County emergency and contingency planning;
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, conducts, hosts and evaluates emergency operations/response training and exercises for the community, schools, local governments, private industry and volunteer agencies to include National Incident Management System (NIMS), develops written after action reports and documents regarding emergency operations and training;
  • Assists and consults with public health and safety agencies, businesses, municipalities and townships on emergency management issues;
  • Assists in the design, maintenance, and operation of the county emergency operations center;
  • Researches, coordinates, analyzes and prepares applications for grant funds, tracks grant funding and expenses, maintains required records, prepares documents and reports regarding the utilization of grant funds, and attends required meetings;
  • Prepares requests for Federal Emergency Management funds following any applicable situation;
  • Researches specific emergency management requirements/statutes and recommends policy, program or procedural changes;
  • Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Management or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in the Emergency Management field or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. and
  • Valid MN driver's license or ability to obtain with 60 days of hire
  • Currently possess or ability to obtain within two years - Emergency Manager Certification from Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM), or completion of the FEMA Emergency Management Basic or Advanced Academy courses SCORED EXAMINATION PROCESS All applications will be screened for minimum qualifications, scored and ranked. The highest ranked candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be recommended for the scored oral examinations (interviews).
