Elementary School Counselor

As the Roosevelt Elementary School Counselor, your role is pivotal in fostering a positive and supportive environment for students, staff, and families. You will be responsible for a wide array of tasks aimed at promoting student well-being, academic success, and overall school community cohesion.

Key Responsibilities

  • **Leadership and Collaboration**:

Provide leadership in promoting a positive school culture that prioritizes student well-being and academic success

Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and staff to develop and implement strategies to support student growth and development.

Engage in courageous conversations with staff to promote student success

  • **Staff Training and Professional Development**:

Develop and facilitate training sessions for staff on topics related to student mental health, behavior management, and academic support strategies.

Provide ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance staff members' skills in supporting students' social-emotional needs.

  • **Focused Student Intervention**:

Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address students' social, emotional, and behavioral concerns.

Develop and implement intervention plans to support students who are experiencing academic difficulties, social challenges, or emotional distress.

  • **Relationships with Families**:

Establish and maintain positive relationships with students' families, serving as a liaison between home and school.

Provide support and resources to families to address their children's academic, social, and emotional needs.

  • **Coordinating Services and Resources**:

Collaborate with community agencies and service providers to coordinate support services for students and families.

Maintain a comprehensive database of available resources and referrals to connect students and families with appropriate support services.

  • **District Assigned Duties**:

Participation in student support meetings, student assistance teams, IEP meetings, leadership team meetings and the coordination of Section 504 Accommodation Plans, as requested by the principal.

Collect, analyze, and share building data to develop goals and strategies to support the district-wide Comprehensive School Counseling Program.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field.
  • State certification or licensure as a school counselor.
  • Experience working with elementary school-aged children in an educational or counseling setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of students, staff, and families.
  • Knowledge of counseling techniques, assessment tools, and intervention strategies appropriate for elementary school students.
