Elementary Assistant Principal - 24/25 SY

REPORTS TO: Principal

Primary Function

The Assistant Principal provides assistance to the school principal with the planning, assessment, instructional leadership, communication, community relations, and safety and administrative management required to manage the instructional and special programs, organizations, and facilities of an assigned school.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of administrative duties in compliance with school division policies and legal requirements required to assist with the management of assigned human, material and financial resources necessary for school operation;
  • Uphold effective discipline and foster a safe and positive environment for students and staff during curricular, non-curricular, and extracurricular activities;
  • Show evidence of instructional leadership and assist with the delivery of required programs of curricular areas necessary to achieve excellence and continuous improvement consistent with school division goals;
  • Participate in collaborative development and implementation of school improvements plans;
  • Plan, implement, support and assess instructional programs;
  • Participate in the provision of staff development programs consistent with program evaluation results and school instructional improvement plans;
  • Identify, analyze and resolve problems using effective problem solving techniques;
  • Promote effective communication and interpersonal relations with students, staff, parents, central office staff, and other community members;
  • Work collaboratively with staff, families, and community members to secure resources and to support the success of a diverse student population;
  • Model professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions;
  • Work in a collegial and collaborative manner with all administrators, school personnel, and the community to promote and support the mission and goals of the school division;
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance student learning and provide service to the profession, the division, and the community;
  • Participate in the activities required to select, induct, support, evaluate, and retain quality instructional and support staff;
  • Provide guidance and assistance to students, parents, and other community members as required;
  • Respond to emergency calls and/or serve as the principal’s designee in his or her absence; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must hold or be eligible for a Postgraduate Professional License (PGP) with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12 or equivalent;
  • Must demonstrate continued progress towards mastering competencies to serve as a school principal;
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instructional practices and trends;
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate both instructional and operational support programs;
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others;
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with the community and staff; and
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
