Electrical and Instrumentation Technician

The Instrumentation & Electrical Technician is responsible to provide service and customer support during field visit, manage all on site installations start-up, repair, maintenance and test tasks, diagnose errors or technical problems, bring appropriate solutions / part of daily activities.

Position Functions:

  • Provide service and customer support during field visits
  • Manage and/or coordinate all the start-up, repair, maintenance, and test tasks on-site or Workshop
  • Diagnose errors or technical problems, and determine proper solutions
  • Ensure proper configuration, start-up, and troubleshooting of the different components included in the system(s) according to the operating manuals
  • Setting up and installation of I/O devices and instruments (low voltage)
  • Performs the configuration of VFDs, automatic valves, instrumentation, and other components based on process parameters
  • Carry out the commissioning activities onsite based on the approved protocols and in collaboration with the automation and process teams
  • Generate daily reports on commissioning progress and upcoming commissioning activities
  • Study / Develop commissioning protocols and forms for the Start Up, IQ, and OQ of process equipment and installations in accordance with the technical documentation put together by the Project Team (i.e. P&IDs, Wiring Diagrams, Network Drawings, Equipment Lists, Functional Analysis, etc.)
  • Setting up and installation of wiring (Low voltage)
  • Perform modifications in electrical cabinets (Low voltage)
  • Maintain a Punch List and resolve open items
  • Tie workflow to schedule/prepare and coordinate shutdown
  • Assimilate customer's requirements and make appropriate recommendations/briefings
  • Perform training for customers and build positive relationships.

SAFETY FIRST: ENSURES SAFETY IS ADDRESSED ON CONSTRUCTION SITES

  • Work in collaboration with the Safety Manager to ensure the construction crew complies with the Safety Manual and site-specific safety rules, and required PPE
  • Carefully plan each intervention in the field taking into account the specifics of each machine/system along with the associated risk prevention actions

QUALITY: GUARANTEES THE RESPECT OF TECHNICAL RULES AND ENSURES THE TECHNICAL TRAINING OF THE STAFF

  • Plan, track, and report all interventions
  • Address and generate non-conformity reports to capture deviations, issues and dysfunctions, or to propose improvements
  • Participate in lessons learned and collect customer satisfaction surveys after interventions

PRODUCTIVITY: GUARANTEES THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CONSTRUCTION SITE AND SCHEDULE WITH RESPECT TOASSIGNED BUDGET

  • Track and update schedule
  • Measure and report Contractor Productivity
  • Respect the budgets assigned for field service activities

Requirements:

Associate Degree, Bachelor or equivalent in a technical field, with a minimum of 1 to 2 years of proven experience in a technical or construction field.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Competency in MS Suite and other data entry software
  • Knowledge of technical industry and site construction
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Read and modify technical drawings (P&ID, wiring diagrams, I/O drawings, network drawings, etc.)
  • Basic experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and associated devices
  • Understanding of PLC I/O and control wiring in both field devices and low-voltage cabinets
  • Strong multitasking abilities
  • Great communication skills
  • Good ability to work under pressure and ability to withstand stress; analytical and critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills backed by solid technical knowledge
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Ability to deliver on shared objectives
